Electricity in Nepal
The standard AC voltage in Nepal is 220-240 V with a frequency of 50 Hz. Nepalese standard electrical outlet consists of three or two-holed sockets supporting a cylindrical three-pin and two-pin plugs. Sockets for flat plugs are not the standard here. However, retrofitted outlets that match the flat-pin plugs like the ones in the US and Canada can also be found. A travel plug adapter and/or voltage converter may be required if you intend to use electrical appliances like hair dryer, shaving machine and others. As voltage fluctuations are common, it is wise to invest in a universal voltage converter/adapter with an in-built fuse to safeguard your appliances. It can easily be bought in Kathmandu and other major cities in case you forget to bring your own.
While on trek, however, finding and using electricity can be both scarce and expensive. Many teahouses allow you to charge your devices on payment which you can expect to be somewhere in the range of NRs. 100 to 1,000 depending on where you are trekking.
