Overview

Journey to the Everest Base Camp – A dream adventure to stand at the base of the highest peak in the world.

The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most sought-after trekking destinations in the world. This legendary adventure takes you deep into the heart of the Khumbu region, offering some of the best views of Mount Everest (8,848 meters/29,029 feet) and other 8,000-meter-high peaks. The Trek to Everest Base Camp not only takes you to the base of the world’s tallest mountain but also combines breathtaking landscapes with the rich culture and traditions of Nepal.

The 14-Day Mount Everest Base Camp Trek lies on the bucket list of travelers around the globe. This is a dream adventure, trekkers must get to experience at least once in their lives. The Everest Base Camp Trek will take you to a height of roughly 5,364 meters/17,598 feet, which is the Everest Base Camp elevation. However, the highest point of the trek will be Kala Patthar (translates to “Black Rock”), which stands at 5,550 meters/18,209 feet tall. The summit of Kala Patthar rewards you with the best 360° panoramic view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, and Ama Dablam, along with the majestic Khumbu Glacier and Icefall.

The Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary begins with a scenic 35-minute flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The Mount Everest Base Camp Trek begins and ends in Lukla, which is famous for its one of the most adventurous airports in the world. The airport is also referred to as the Tenzing-Hillary Airport, named after the popular figures, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. After we arrive in Lukla, we will then officially begin our EBC Trek journey, passing alongside the Dudh Koshi River, and through the Sagarmatha National Park, then head towards Phakding, where you will spend your first night in the Khumbu region of Nepal.

Following your trek to Phakding, you will then arrive at the famous trekking hub at Namche Bazaar the next day. Namche Bazaar, which is also known as the “Gateway to Everest”, is a popular trading point in the Everest region and a key acclimatization stop for trekkers and climbers. You will spend an extra day here at Namche for acclimatization and safety from Altitude Sickness. Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,286 ft) is also one of the last stops where trekkers can buy or rent trekking gear and equipment before heading onto their journey.

Continuing our journey, the Everest Base Camp Trek route brings us to Tengboche, where you will visit the famous Tengboche Monastery. We then continue on towards Dinboche the following day and spend an extra day here to get used to the high altitude. The Everest Base Camp Trek is a challenging yet rewarding journey, and that is why you must follow all the necessary precautions and prepare for your safety. Following the Everest Base Camp Trek map and our final acclimatization stop at Dingboche, we head to Lobuche and finally reach Gorak Shep, before heading onto the main highlight of our trek, Everest Base Camp.

After successfully conquering Everest Base Camp, you are filled with all sorts of emotions and a sense of accomplishment. You can take great pride in completing this once-in-a-lifetime journey. You will spend the night in Gorak Shep. Another major highlight of the Everest Base Camp Trek awaits us the following day. We hike to the summit of Kala Patthar very early in the morning to catch the sunrise and witness breathtaking views of some of the tallest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest itself.

On our 14-Day Everest Base Camp Trek itinerary, we will be walking the EBC trail for 11 days. Out of the 11 days of trekking, 8 days are set out for hiking up at a slow pace, and 3 days are for the descent to Lukla after completing the journey. The total Everest Base Camp Trek distance stretches to about 130 kilometers (round-trip), making it a fairly long trekking journey. However, with the ease of our clients in mind, we will be trekking only about 5 to 6 hours per day with plenty of rests in between for recovery.

Our priority at Access Nepal Tour and Trekking is our clients’ health and safety. The guides we provide for your trekking adventures are experts at navigating the terrain and have well over a decade of trekking experience. We highly urge you to listen and follow their instructions during the trek for your safety.

To avoid Altitude Sickness and incorporate safe trekking practices, we follow the universal rule of “Climb High, Sleep Low”. Therefore, apart from the two days dedicated for acclimatization at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, to further aid with the acclimatization procedure, we hike at high altitudes during the day and get down for overnight rest.

The Everest Base Camp Trek is a perfect adventure for nature lovers, as you will get the chance to spot various wildlife species, including the Himalayan Tahr, Himalayan Yaks, Musk Deers, and Himalayan Monal (Danphe) along the journey. If you’re lucky enough, you may even spot endangered animals such as the Red Panda or even a Snow Leopard while passing through the forests of Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Throughout this legendary journey, you will walk through dense pine and rhododendron forests along the way. Hence, if you’re a lover of nature, a filmmaker, a student of nature, or simply an adventure seeker, the Mount Everest Base Camp Trek is the perfect getaway adventure for you.

The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp is during the Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) seasons. These seasons offer the best views of the surrounding mountains with clear skies and moderate temperatures, making it ideal for trekking and beautiful sightseeing. Furthermore, the Everest Base Camp Trek’s best time ensures you have a higher chance of various wildlife sightings, which you would not want to miss out on.

Our Everest Base Camp Trek cost starts at $1,490 per person. The trek cost has been carefully set taking into consideration factors as accommodation, transportation fees including flight tickets to and from Lukla, full-board meals, guides and porter charges, as well as permit fees, and is all inclusive in the total cost of the trip.

Furthermore, at Access Nepal Tour and Trekking, we provide our clients with the added benefit of customizing the itineraries to suit their own personal needs and requirements in order to enjoy the best possible trekking experience in Nepal. Local delicacies are not only more hygienic but also nutritionally beneficial. Our packages include 14 breakfasts, 13 lunches, and 14 dinners (including welcome and farewell dinners) during the trek, served on a full-board (main course) basis. Seasonal fruits, tea, and coffee are also included.

Teahouses provide hygienic meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. A staple dish is the Nepali dish (daal bhat) which includes lentil soup, rice, seasonal vegetables, pickles, meat, and other side dishes. In addition to traditional meals, teahouses also have other options like porridge, macaroni, spaghetti, pizza, lasagna, curry dishes, fried rice, momo (dumplings), sandwiches, Noodles (Chowmein), oats, and bakery items.

Due to the location and accommodation type, food and drink prices may vary. We recommend carrying protein bars and dried fruits for extra energy.

Note: You can pre-inform us about any dietary preferences or allergies.

About Drinking Water During the Everest Base Camp Trek

While on trek, keeping your body hydrated is crucial for your day’s journey. Without proper hydration, there are high chances you may feel unwell and unmotivated along your trekking journey. We strongly advise you to drink plenty of water during the trek and keep yourself hydrated. It is advisable that you drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily during the trek. Keep your water bottle with you at all times and keep on hydrating your body in short intervals. You may refill your water bottles at the lodge or at natural water sources along the way, which your guide recommends as safe for drinking.

We strongly advise you to purify the water before drinking it. We provide you with water purifiers so you can drink safe water. You can also buy bottled water in various shops and lodges along the way. But please note that the cost of bottled water rises as you reach higher altitudes. A liter of bottled water may cost you from USD 1 to up to USD 4, depending on the location.

How often to drink water?

Drink half a liter of water as you wake up on an empty stomach. You can have another half-liter within an hour of waking up. When you start trekking, have regular sips of water in brief intervals before you experience dryness in your mouth. Your water intake while trekking should be 1.5 to 2 liters. When you feel tired, take a break and hydrate. When you reach your campsite, have a liter of water in small breaks.

When is the Best Time to Visit Everest Base Camp Trek?

When traveling to the Himalayas region, travelers should be mindful of choosing when is the best time to visit Everest Base Camp Trek. The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp is during Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). During this time, the weather becomes favorable, and other things like clear skies, pleasant temperatures, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

  • Spring (March-May): The temperature at higher altitudes can rise to 20°C (68°F) during the day and drop to around -5°C (23°F) at night in Spring season. Around this season, the trails are filled with blooming rhododendrons and other wildflowers.
  • Autumn (September-November): The temperature during daytime at high elevations can reach up to 25°C (77°F), while nighttime temperatures can drop to -10°C (14°F). During this season, weather conditions become stable, crystal clear mountain views, and the perfect setting for photography.

Despite spring and autumn being ideal, treks can be arranged during summer (June-August), Winter (December-February), and other times also.

  • Summer (June-August): During summer, at high altitudes, the temperatures become warmer with daytime highs reaching 27°C (80.6°F) and nighttime lows around 5°C (41°F). However, the monsoon season coincides with summer, leading to wet and slippery trails in the lower regions. Additionally, flight delays to and from Lukla are more common due to rain and cloudy weather.
  • Winter (December-February): During winter, the temperatures at high altitudes go up about 15°C (59°F) in the daytime. At night, the temperatures can plunge to -20°C (-4°F) or lower. Heavy snowfalls during this season make some parts of the route challenging. However, the trail will be quieter due to the cold, with fewer trekkers and pristine snow-covered surroundings.

Altitude and Acclimatization During the Everest Base Camp Trek

The trek involves significant altitude gain, reaching a maximum of 5,550 meters at Kala Patthar. Acclimatization stops in Namche Bazaar at 3,440m and Dingboche at 4,410m are critical to avoid altitude sickness. Trekkers are advised to hydrate well and ascend slowly to adapt to the thinner air.

The trek usually takes 12 days and covers about 80 miles (130 km) round trip from Lukla. Everest Base Camp/Chitwan/City tour May 2024 • Solo Very responsible company. He contributed greatly to the success of the trip. From the first contact, always trying to provide the best possible service, excellent hotel chosen with good structure. Great guide, very safe throughout the itinerary. There was bad weather forecast on the itinerary and we had to advance the walk and we managed to get a good view of Everest on the way up Kalapatthar. Perfect itinerary, no surprises! I did the safari in Chitwan and everything was fine, the resort structure chosen was sensational and the tours were great. Excellent city tour passing through the main attractions of Kathmandu. I highly recommend the company!

Everest Expedition Jun 2024 • Couples We decided to face an adventure that we had long planned to do. In June 2024 we climbed up to the Everest Base Camp (5364 m), passing Kalapatthar, about 5500 m. The challenge was only possible due to the excellent work done by the Agency Access Nepal, which in addition to organizing the entire expedition, encouraged us throughout the journey to complete the accomplishment. The presence, guidance and support of the Subodh Tamang guide and the Nirat loader were essential for the success of the adventure. The support of Sadhana, who was at the forefront of all the planning, was also very important. I highly recommend this agency!!! Note 10.

Friendly, great service, great value for money, speak good English, earthquake had no impact on our trip Oct 2015 • Friends From the moment we landed they took complete care of us. All we had to do was turn up and they sorted everything else. They took care of all the admin required for activities, so the whole three week holiday was a care free experience. Even with a fuel crisis, and one days notice from us, they managed to organise a private car to take us on a six hour round trip allowing us to go white water rafting. I would also note that the earthquake has had no impact on the service/packages provided by Access Nepal. Talking to other trekkers it seems that many people use the big western trekking companies to organise their holidays. In reality these trekking companies act as management agents who then go to companies such as Access Nepal to do all the work. Access Nepal will offer the same service/accommodation/facilities as the western companies. Having book with Access Nepal directly I am more than happy to recommend that others do the same. Save yourself some extra spending money and support a domestic business.

Superb trip thanks to Access Nepal Oct 2015 • Friends The team at Access Nepal are fantastic and made the trip completely stress free. From booking the trip while back in the UK to being collected from the airport and taken to our Hotel everything was thought of and taken care of smoothly. We did a 4 day Safari in Chitwan, the 14 day EBC Trek and on returning to Kathmandu asked Sadhana to organise some white water rafting for us. This was organised at less than 24hr notice and was a really great day trip with a private driver and 4hrs of very good rafting. The safari and the trek were both perfectly organised. All door to door transport and excellent accommodation (much better than many of the other trekkers we met) were sorted. The team also made sure we had all the correct gear and were happy to lend us anything we didn't bring. The guides and porters were absolutely brilliant. They speak excellent English and were great guys. They know how to make sure you get the most out of the trekking and make it all the way and when not guiding us most of our evenings were spent drinking tea and playing cards with them. I can't recommend these guys enough and would absolutely use them again if returning to Nepal.

At the end of April 2018, I and three people went on a trek to Everest Base Camp. We hired Access Nepal. When hiring, there was a misunderstanding regarding the billing (input x balance). I confess that this made me very worried. This problem was resolved with Sadhana, (refunded) and payment was made after the trek, that is, the company trusted and received after providing the services. Two colleagues and I arrived first, and they were already waiting for us at the airport. One of the colleagues would arrive on another flight later, the flight ended up being delayed for more than 5 hours, and the person responsible for reception was there waiting all this time. They were extremely punctual with schedules. We had several good surprises, reception dinner, dinner at the end of the trek, we received a t-shirt and duffel bag as a gift (we didn't need to buy them). They also provided us with the sleeping bag and down jacket, which saved us a significant amount. Everyone was very attentive, including the guide, Dipendra, who even taught us some card games to occupy the time we were resting. And Sadhana, how calm, kind, attentive. I recommend. As for the trail, I believe it is one of the most beautiful in the world, an incredible experience, it would take hours to talk about it. And the Nepalese people, very welcoming and friendly. They won my heart.

I just got back from trekking to Everest Base Camp organized by Acces Nepal Tour and Trekking and everything went very well! The agency met all my expectations, providing a sleeping bag and jacket for the trek, on loan, both suitable for the cold of January, and a duffel bag as a gift! Still in Brazil, I received guidance on what to pack for the trek and a detailed itinerary. The guide Subodh, with lots of interesting information, was always very attentive, careful and patient, as was the porter who accompanied us. The lodges were very simple, but clean and suitable for resting, with fresh and tasty food. The trekking was incredible, the landscapes were wonderful!!!

Amazing time doing EBC trek with Access Nepal! I went with Access Nepal for my Everest Base Camp 14 day trek, and I had an incredible experience! From my very initial inquiry, Sadhana was quick to respond and answer any questions. She made me feel very comfortable and connected throughout the entire process, and provided me with all the relevant information leading up to my arrival. When we finally met in Kathmandu to discuss the trek, she was just as friendly and kind and made me feel at ease knowing I was starting the next morning. I was met by my guide Om Prakash at the Kathmandu airport. From there he was with me the entire time as we traveled to Lukla to begin our trek and until I returned to Kathmandu. Om Prakash was an excellent and friendly guide, with so much knowledge of the area, the culture, the route, where to stay and safe places to eat and drink, and he also took the best photos! It was very helpful to have a local speaking guide to handle flight and accommodation logistics on my behalf, making sure I have somewhere to stay and eat every night. Throughout the trek, he managed my health and recommended me the best course of action when I wasn’t feeling 100%. He set the trekking pace accordingly to ensure my best success. Our porter, Bidur, was also extremely lovely during the trek. He handled my things with proper care, always made sure to have it ready on time by the evening, was extremely friendly and nice to talk to, and provided excellent service and companionship. Overall I had a 10/10 experience with Access Nepal: the trip coordinator Sadhana, my guide Om Prakash and my porter Bidur. I would recommend going with Access Nepal if you are looking to conquer the EBC trek or any similar in Nepal!

Access Nepal delivered the trip of a lifetime! Access Nepal did a fantastic job organizing our trip to Everest Base Camp. They planned logistics with us for over a year (even though there were only 3 of us) and communicated quickly and clearly. Our guide Jivan was so incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and proficient. He answered my (million) questions as we trekked each day, patiently and with humor. Tek and Bashante, our porters, were unbelievable. Besides carrying some of our luggage, they also carried a box of fresh fruit all the way up just to help our bodies maintain some nutrition. I'm really happy to recommend Access Nepal for any of your travels in the Himalyas - you won't be disappointed!
