Chitwan Jungle Safari brings you closer to immersive wildlife encounters in nature. Explore the wilderness of Chitwan from thrilling Jeep safaris to authentic cultural encounters.
Chitwan Jungle Safari is an adventure that blends nature with cultural immersion. The tour package is best for those looking for an escape into nature’s wilderness, observing its beauty and the thrill. It offers an immersive experience of the Chitwan National Park, Nepal’s first and the most famous national park. Established in 1973, the Chitwan National Park was granted the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, attracting many visitors to witness its beauty.
The name “Chitwan” can be interpreted as “Heart of the Jungle”, and it stays true to the translation. Covering an area of 952.63 square kilometers and at an elevation of 100 meters (in the river valleys) to 815 meters (in the Sivalik Hills), the Chitwan National Park is home to a diverse range of Flora and Fauna, including various endangered wildlife such as the One-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tiger, Asian elephants, and even some of the rare bird species like the Bengal Florican, Lesser Adjutant Stork, White-rumped Vulture, and more.
Beyond the spectacular wildlife tour experience, the Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour also introduces you to the vibrant culture of the indigenous Tharu community. Travelers planning their jungle safari in Chitwan can enjoy the traditional Tharu dance performances, explore local villages nearby, and learn about the unique way of life of the locals.
Chitwan was once the exclusive hunting grounds of Nepal’s ruling class in the late 19th century, and Chitwan’s dense jungles were known for royal big-game expeditions during that time. Due to the excessive hunting and deforestation issues, by the 1960s, only a fraction of the park’s original forest remained. With the establishment of the Chitwan National Park in 1973, conservation efforts took a dramatic turn, marking a major milestone in Nepal’s environmental movement.
Jungle Safari in Chitwan offers you the chance to explore the lush green forests and grasslands through some exciting activities like Jeep safaris through the National Park, canoe rides, elephant safaris, nature walks, and bird watching. Whether you’re a lover of nature, a wildlife enthusiast, a photographer, a documentary filmmaker, or simply just looking for a short break from your busy lives in the wilderness of Chitwan, the Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour promises to deliver all your expectations and make it a reality.
At Access Nepal Tour, your Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour begins with a comfortable tour bus drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan. You also have the additional option to travel in a private vehicle or even book a flight to Bharatpur Airport for an additional cost, which is the closest airport to Chitwan. Upon your arrival at a deluxe resort in Chitwan with swimming pool facilities to cool off from the heat, you will have your filling lunch and officially start your Jungle Safari tour.
On your first day, after having lunch, you will be taken on a village tour to get a glimpse into the culture and daily life of the Tharu people, observing traditional crafts, visiting local homes, and interacting with the locals. Later in the evening, you will witness the famous Tharu culture dance, which is one of the key highlights of the tour, and end the day with a warm dinner.
The thrill begins on your second day as after having a nutritious breakfast at the resort, you will begin your Chitwan adventures with canoeing. Canoeing is a peaceful activity that allows for wildlife viewing along the banks of the Rapti and Narayani rivers. After canoeing, a guided jungle walk awaits for your next adventure into the park. Then, after the walk, you will take a short break for lunch at the resort.
Following Lunch, the most awaited part of your tour, the Jeep Safari, is next. You will take on the safari at the heart of the park, exploring various wildlife and forest along the tour, and end the day with a filling dinner.
You will end your Chitwan Jungle Safari on your third day after having breakfast at the resort and departing for Kathmandu. The best time is usually considered the best during the dry season from October to March. During this time, the weather is pleasant with warm days and cool nights, with skies often clear. Spotting wildlife is also easier during this season as the vegetation is less dense.
Furthermore, the itinerary can be customized to your liking and preferences. Also, additional days can be added for activities such as the Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour and further explorations to enhance your trip and make memories with the Access Nepal family that last a lifetime.

Best Time to Visit Chitwan Jungle Safari
Travelers need to be aware of the best time to visit the Chitwan jungle safari for the best possible experience. The best time to experience the Chitwan jungle safari is during the dry season from October to March.
Here is a brief breakdown of the best possible time for you to visit the Chitwan jungle safari:
- October to Early March (Autumn-Winter): The weather during this time remains cool and dry, making it perfect for outdoor activities like jeep safaris, canoe rides, and nature walks. You can expect perfect daytime temperatures, and the skies are usually clear, offering clearer visibility for wildlife spotting as animals gather around water sources. The cooler condition also means fewer mosquitoes and other insects.
- March to May (Spring): The Spring season is not ideal for everyone, but early morning or late afternoon safaris can still be enjoyable. Wildlife is still visible during this time, but the heat can be intense and reach up to 40°C, especially in May and June.
- June to September (Summer/Monsoon): June to September is generally considered the least favorable time to do the Chitwan jungle safari. The park receives heavy rainfall during this season, leading to muddy and slippery trails. Wildlife is also quite difficult to spot due to the excessive rainfall and dense vegetation. The summer/monsoon season also attracts more insects and mosquitoes, and can be a disturbing factor for many travelers.
Food and Drinks during the Chitwan Jungle Safari
Having a proper diet plan is crucial for travelers doing any trip. A nutritious meal and something to hydrate yourself are very important to reenergize during your travels to enhance your experience and get a taste of the local food and culture. It is highly recommended that you consume meals rich in protein and carbohydrates to stay fully energized throughout your adventures.
During the Chitwan jungle safari tour, you will be staying at a deluxe resort with premium services and meal options. You will be served a full-board meal on your second day of your trip at the resort. Most of the resorts at Chitwan have their own organic garden where they source their own seasonal vegetables.
Breakfast is usually served with a mix of Western and Nepali-style options like Toast with jam/butter, eggs, pancakes, fruits, and tea, coffee, or seasonal juice. For lunch, most resorts either serve meals in a buffet-style or a set menu. Some of the famous lunch meals include the traditional Nepali Dal Bhat with lentil soup, rice, veggies, pickles, and meat. There are also options of fried rice, noodles, and pasta for those who prefer a more Western-style meal.
Dinner usually includes a barbecue, soups, curry-based dishes, and local desserts like rice pudding (kheer) or fruit salad. You can enjoy various drinks to hydrate yourself and cool off from the heat at Chitwan, including fresh mocktails, seasonal juices, tea, and coffee.
Chitwan Jungle Safari as a Learning Opportunity
The Chitwan jungle safari is filled with unique learning opportunities. The jungle safari is not just about viewing wildlife, but also learning about them in their natural habitat. Whether you’re a nature lover, a student, a photographer, a documentary filmmaker, or anyone curious about the natural world of Chitwan.
Chitwan is a land full of learning and discovery. One can learn to identify various animals like rhinos, deer, sloth bears, crocodiles, and tigers in their natural habitat. You can even find one-horned rhinos simply walking freely on the streets of Chitwan. This presents a great opportunity for wildlife biology or conservation students to learn about animal behavior, tracking techniques using footprints and droppings.
The famous Chitwan National Park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site where travelers can learn about the tropical and subtropical ecosystems, human-wildlife conflict, and how to manage them, and regarding the anti-poaching efforts used for endangered species of birds and mammals.
Over 500 different bird species have been recorded at Chitwan, which is why it is the most ideal place for beginners as well as advanced bird watchers to learn about various species of birds and tracking activities.
Travelers can also learn about the Tharu culture and traditions by visiting the villages nearby and observing different traditional dances and cultural performances.
The nature walks at Chitwan can be a great learning opportunity for basic jungle survival skills, such as walking quietly in the jungle, what to do when you encounter wild animals in the jungle, which plants are edible, and learn navigational skills.
Chitwan National Park can also be a great place to learn about nature photography. Chitwan jungle safari photos can help photographers learn about various factors like lighting, stealth, and patience when it comes to taking photographs in nature. Chitwan jungle safari photos can be a great place to start a traveler’s filmmaking journey.

Can we stay inside Chitwan National Park?
No, you cannot stay overnight deep inside the core area of Chitwan National Park anymore. Staying inside the core protected zone has been prohibited since around 2012 by the Nepal government to reduce human disturbance to wildlife.
However, you can stay in buffer zone lodges and community-managed areas that are very close to the park and offer an immersive experience of wildlife.

Annapurnas and Chitwan National Park Apr 2024 • Friends April, 2024. Group. The trip we took with Access Nepal was magnificent: the Annapurna Circuit and the Chiwan National Park. Both the agency staff, with Sadhanna in charge, and the guides on the route, Devman, Bicash and Shuresh, were always attentive to solve any problem in a caring and efficient manner. They perfectly planned the routes and our daily life so that the entire group could progressively acclimatize to the altitude and effort, so that no one suffered any type of problem and that despite the hardness of the route. The hotels and food in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan are unbeatable. The mountain lodges met our expectations despite the precariousness that these accommodations usually have. The scheduled visits and tours were very interesting. And above. We were lucky with the weather and we thoroughly enjoyed the incredible settings. We had already done the Lantang Valley with them before and we knew of their effectiveness. In short, lucky to have traveled with them. We will repeat in new adventures. .

Unbeatable experience Mar 2024 • Friends I did the Annapurnas trek with my group from Valencia. And I return delighted. Everything very well organized. The guides and porters of 10, a very hard job for them. Everyone is always very helpful and attentive to all of us. They provided us with bags and feathers for whoever needed them, which were perfectly clean and in good condition. The visits we made in Kathmandu, Pokhara and surrounding areas were also well organized. In short, a very pleasant experience, at all times I have felt cared for and in good hands. A big thank you to the entire Access Nepal team. I hope to have a new experience with them soon. 💚🧡🩵💙❤️💛💜🩷🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵

An amazing trek. Mar 2024 • Friends An incredible experience. From Chame to Muktinath and from Tatopani to Poon Hill. An adventure among epic landscapes, discovering mountains, valleys and mountain ranges that leave you speechless and with the help of a top-level professional team with whom we were unanimously delighted. Stays, transportation, medical care, guide, luggage... whatever you want, everything impeccably organized and with the most kind and friendly treatment, a colossal job by people who make you feel at home even in the shelter more isolated and above all, it knows very well how to do high mountains and adapt to the needs of each member of the expedition. Our thirty people in number and the logistics that entailed were no match for the experience, skill and tremendous effort of Devman and his wonderful team. The visits to Pokhara, Chitwan and Khatmandu were very fun and the historical places of the capital were especially exciting. And its bars.
