The Annapurna Circuit Trek is a famous 16-day trek located in the Annapurna region of Nepal. Being one of the top trekking experiences in the world, the Annapurna region is worth exploring and making a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is protected by the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Annapurna Circuit Trek is suitable for people who love challenges and adventure. This region is famous for its breathtaking mountain views, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. Both beginners and experienced trekkers are welcome to trek the Nepal Annapurna Circuit. Our Annapurna Circuit itinerary is flexible and customizable according to your preferences.
First of all, the Annapurna Circuit Trek begins at an altitude of 800 meters and climbs up to 5,416 meters at the Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). While trekking, trekkers will go through various landscapes like rice paddy fields, subtropical forests, rural villages, and glacial zones. Another good part about this trip is you will get to see the panoramic views of the highest peaks, including Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Manaslu (8,163m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna II (7,937 meters), Mt. Annapurna III (7,555m), Mt. Annapurna IV (7,525m), Mt. Annapurna south (7,219m), Machhapuchhre (6,993 m), Mt. Nilgiri (7,041m), Mt. Machhapuchhare (6,998m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6,441m), Mt. Lamjung Himal (6,986m), Tukuche peak (6,920m), and Tilicho peak (7134m).
Moreover, the interesting part about the Annapurna Circuit Trek is its circular route, meaning it goes in a loop and you won’t see the same scenery twice. Each day feels like new and gives exciting views. The trek Annapurna Circuit truly shows the natural and cultural beauty of Nepal, that’s why it is often called a trekker’s paradise.
Throughout the trek, you will pass through different traditional Nepali villages which give you the chance to experience the local culture and traditions firsthand. Villages like Pisang, Ngawal, and Manang are particularly famous for their ancient monasteries, mani walls, and chortens.
Manang is a highlight of the trek, located at an altitude of 3,540 meters. This town is a perfect place for acclimatization while viewing the beautiful surrounding views of Annapurna and Gangapurna mountains. A morning hike to the glacial lake of Gangapurna is highly recommended. The town is full of traditional stone houses, narrow valleys, and a variety of shops to restock supplies or enjoy some local cuisine.
Likewise, another adventurous and challenging part of the Annapurna Circuit Trek is crossing the Thorong La Pass. This pass, at an altitude of 5,416 meters, is the highest point of the trek. The way up is steep and requires careful planning. However, after reaching the top, it is an unforgettable experience. The view from the pass with the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges stretching out before you is worth all hardships. Looking to the Annapurna Circuit trek map, the trail will go down to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Muktinath is known for its 108 brass water spouts and temples.
After leaving Muktinath, the trek continues by passing through the Kaligandaki River to Tatopani. This village is famous for its natural hot springs. Here, you can relax and soothe your tired muscles in the warm waters. The next day’s trek leads to Ghorepani, another beautiful village that has the best place to view the sunrise. Further, an early morning hike to Poon Hill is a must, where you can watch the sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The sight of these snow-capped peaks bathed in the morning light is a fitting end to this trek.
The final leg of the journey takes you down to Ulleri, from where you drive to Pokhara. Eventually, coming from Ulleri, we will find ourselves walking through a dense oak and rhododendron forest. It is a beautiful walk, particularly during the Spring season with the wildflowers in full bloom.
Annapurna Circuit Trek Additional Note:
The Annapurna Circuit Trek is challenging and suitable for trekkers who are physically fit and prepared for long days of hiking. On average, trekkers will walk between 5 to 7 hours each day.
