Everest Base Camp Trek with Access Nepal Tour and Trekking!
Oct 2016 • Friends
I found Access Nepal Tour And Trekking online. It stood out to me as they were decent priced, unlike many other trekking tours that were very expensive. I was initially concerned that the cheaper price may have brought the quality of the trip down. I was far from wrong in this regard! From the first email, to right through the trip, Access Nepal are perfect! The email response time was very quick and the emails were very informative. I sent plenty of emails with silly questions, but all were answered equally. Everything was sorted out for us. From getting picked up at the airport (they waited 3 hours for us as our flight was delayed!). From the hotel accommodation, the flights into Lukla, the accommodation on the trek, the food, the day to day activities, the looking after us when we weren’t feeling to good. The guide and porters were amazing! Our guide was top class! He checked up on us at least 10 times a day to make sure we were feeling alright. I personally had a lung problem, I found it difficult to breath. Our guide checked up on me plenty of times and made sure everything was fine before we moved on.
Each tea house we went to was awesome! They were very friendly and helped out. Wifi wasn’t great at some of them but that was likely due to the weather. I was very surprised with the food. I was expecting very bland and basic but it turned out very enjoyable!
I didn’t have any problems with Access Nepal! I would recommend this company to anyone and everyone! I will certainly be using them again in the years to come! Thanks Team!!

EBC trek
Dec 2016 • Couples
Me and my wife had a private trek to ebc with Access Nepal Tour & Trekking. Sadhana attended to us from day one untill we return to Kathmandu. The service she provide was superb. Our guide, Anoj and our porter were very helpful and move with our pace during trekking. Both of them never leave us behind.

Our trip went south, when I was cought with HAPE.. that require us to descend immediately. Sadhana and the team efficiently call for assistant, and arrange with our insurance company to send a Heli for rescue.

This trip was not a succes story for me, but the journey was made beautiful by Sadhana and her team. Her reply to all my question was prompt. Her assistance through out all the time we were there was second to none. I’ll be back, and definitely will use Access Nepal Tour & Trekking.

….Better than Excellent! 14 day trek to EBC
Apr 2018 • Couples
I highly recommend using Access Nepal for your trek in Nepal. We did the 14-day Everest Base Camp trek the last two weeks in April 2018 and it was well organized, professionally guided and an excellent adventure for my boyfriend and me. Ms. Sadhana Adhikari is the Executive Travel Advisor we dealt with by phone and email from the U.S. and was our main contact (other than our guide Dev) in Nepal. She handled our reservation efficiently, was responsive to our requests and questions; well organized itinerary, good prep, personable. Great to work with! At our intro meeting upon arrival, Sadhana reviewed the itinerary, policy, gear needs, other things–and tipping. See below.* We wanted to trek as our own group of two with a guide and that worked out great as we trekked slower than other groups. We’re active, yet I turned 60 on the trek (cool) and the other person is 66 (he did this EBC trek 40 years ago…super cool.) The Hotel Blue Horizon in Katmandu is terrific, by the way. Stayed there before and after the trek and it was inexpensive $ and just wonderful. Staff is out of sight friendly and helpful. Location was perfect. Excellent breakfast included.

I can’t say enough about our top-notch guide: Devman Tamang. He had excellent knowledge of and experience on EBC and other Himalayan treks, as well as Nepali culture, history, tradition, religion, demographics and getting in and out of Lukla in one piece! (That is a story…worked out slick all in all.) He was personable, interesting and when you spend 14 days together, you hope it’s a comfortable fit–it was! He has a good sense of humor and quick wit. He was flexible with us on the schedule (starting earlier in the morning, etc.) and was great about discussing any of our great ideas! lol)

Accommodations in the tea houses are pretty basic and we asked to have a bathroom/toilet in our room since we’d been hydrating all day. The sleeping rooms are not heated and were rather cold (and that from a Minnesotan) so the in-room toilets were a convenience that Dev arranged, and for which we paid a little more. The beds at every tea house were spartan, but were in fact, very comfortable and the quilts/heavy blankets were fabulously warm over our sleeping bags. The Access Nepal sleeping bags we used were excellent and we were not cold once we were in bed. A couple places even had warm/hot showers-an unexpected treat. The tea house dining rooms were warm (yak turd and kerosene fueled stoves), full of other trekkers who we saw on a recurring basis over the trek and occasionally reminded me of the cantina in Star Wars (in an amusing and other-worldly way…no blasters or light sabers noted!) A highlight, great time to chat with people from around the world.
WIFI is not cheap and is spotty but Dev let us know what our options were at each tea house dining room. Used it minimally to send email/text; sending photos is slow and uses up most of a limited Everest Link wifi card.
Meds: Bring a lot of Tylenol, Ibuprofen, a decongestant, cough drops (you can also buy those and Diclofenac in Kathmandu), perhaps a topical analgesic for sore muscles. Dev’s first aid kit held an array of basic meds which were very helpful as well. He shared local honey from his mom for one malady. I would have brought muscle relaxers and a stronger pain med for some of the random problems I had from hiking long days with new pack etc. Hand warmers were one of the best things I had for getting warm after hiking (lots cheaper to bring them from home. Rather pricey in Namche…) I took Diamox, my friend did not.
Dev saved my bacon on this trek, and really, he did everything within reason to make both our lives more comfortable and to summit successfully. He was great about making sure we drank enough tea and water and ate food (which was consistent between tea houses and pretty good overall. Didn’t eat any meat as it is brought in by yak and didn’t want to chance a stomach problem. Bummer, I wanted to try a yak steak!) Meals were bigger than I could routinely eat (I’m a smaller human…) and the cooks don’t like leftovers, so I shared with my friend and Dev if they were still hungry.
We bought bottled water the whole trek, carried TP and small bottle of biodegradable soap. Tough to get laundry done on trek due to limited time and hang dry only.
On April 23, we trekked through the memorial area before reaching Lobuche and Dev helped us make rock, juniper and prayer flag memorials to our loved ones who have died. Very moving. And at dinner that evening in Lobuche, he had a homemade Tibetan cake, replete with birthday candles served to our table for my 60th b-day. Altitude, emotion, whatever….it was really moving to celebrate my birthday with all my new friends/strangers in the dining room. Thanks to Dev for planning the cake and celebration. It meant a lot to me…I still went to bed early as Base Camp was next day. I appreciated Dev’s positive, kind and low-key but not too mellow attitude, especially on my tougher hiking days. As I said, he was a key component in helping me reach Base Camp (On the morning we left Lobuche for Base Camp, the temperature dropped, and wind and snow started. It was a cold, challenging yet exciting day.)
You may consider a 16-day trek if you want to have more time on the return trek. The last three days back to Lukla were long trekking days for us, yet we were anxious to get back to Lukla, Kathmandu and beyond. It’s a trade-off for you to balance. I still preferred the 14 day. Having said that, I reminded myself regularly throughout the entire trek, to stop and enjoy the trip. Pain, altitude, snow…whatever…I reminded myself to notice the incredible environment, scenery and experience. Even when I felt like crud, that focus wasn’t lost on me…We stopped to enjoy the indescribable scenery, peaks, rhododendrons, take photos, walk the longer way around the Buddhist symbols and sometimes have tea and snack when we got tired. Go slow, enjoy was our mantra. BTW, we had great weather nearly every day: either clear and warm or cooler and comfortable. Except on Base Camp day. lol

**Tipping: This is important. Guides and porters depend on tips (in addition to their compensation) so build that into your budget. Our porter Astaram (16) was doing one of his first treks. Filling in for his older brother and on a break from school, this young man was awesome. He schlepped our two heavy Access Nepal duffel bags to each stop and had them waiting when we arrived each night. The porters work their butts off–don’t forget them. We gave him the tip personally on the last day and it meant a lot to him. I don’t think tips are dependent on reaching the destination (variables such as altitude sickness or other unforeseeable issues may intercede), it really was the overall experience that mattered, though I am grateful to Dev for helping me get to base camp. But I am also happy with the entire experience-that’s what my tip was for. We had a small group, so we tipped more on a percentage basis. It was well worth it and given the very reasonable cost of the Access Nepal trek itself, I felt comfortable with it. We gave some $ early on and the balance at the end. And we talked about overall comp-as well as just about everything else- on the trail. Dollars or Rupees…doesn’t matter. Just remember that it is not built into the price of the trek.

Epilogue: excellent trek and adventure. LOVED Nepal and Kathmandu–you might want to wear a mask or buff as the city air quality is poor. We both got nasty head and chest colds the last day of the trek, so noticed the city air more. We really liked the people throughout Nepal, enjoyed extra days walking all over Kathmandu. Bought a lot of inexpensive knock off gear for future endeavors and because nearly all our clothes were dirty. Laundry is done at hotels but didn’t find a self-laundromat which is what I needed. I am staying in touch with a couple people I met via Facebook and would have brought some business cards to exchange with people I met.
I would recommend ACCESS NEPAL TOUR & TREKKING to anyone regardless of skill or experience, for a great experience at a very reasonable price.
