Itinerary of Langtang Valley Trek
Day 01: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1400m)
Upon your arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. You can rest and explore the local markets of Kathmandu on your own.
Day 02: Sightseeing of Kathmandu Valley (1400m) and Trek preparation day
You will have the chance to discover the city of Kathmandu’s historical and cultural treasures on day two. A knowledgeable tour guide will take you on a guided tour of some of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites after breakfast. One of the most important Hindu temples of Lord Shiva is Pashupatinath Temple, which is situated on the banks of the Bagmati River. A significant site for the Tibetan people living in Nepal is the Boudhanath Stupa, one of the biggest stupas in the world.
The Swayambhunath Temple, also called the Monkey Temple, is the next place you’ll go. It is located on a hill and offers sweeping views of the Kathmandu Valley. The Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was previously the palace of the Malla and Shah Kings of Nepal, will be your final stop. Numerous temples, palaces, and courtyards that feature traditional Nepali architecture can be found in the plaza.
You will have the rest of the day to get ready for your hike after the sightseeing tour. Pack your bags, have a nap, and purchase or rent any equipment you might need during this period.
Day 03: Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1420m), 5-6 hours drive
Today you leave for Langtang Valley Trek, situated just north of Kathmandu. As you leave Kathmandu behind, the road winds its way through the hills and provides stunning views of the Himalayas. You will pass through the towns of Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche before reaching Syabrubesi. The journey takes about 5-6 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. Once you arrive in Syabrubesi, you can relax and prepare for the trek ahead. You can explore the village on the banks of the Bhote Koshi River and get a glimpse of the local culture and way of life. Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.
Day 04: Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2350m), 6-7 hours trek
As you leave Syabrubesi behind and ascend on the trail, the stunning views of the surrounding hills and mountains will gradually unfold before you. The trek to Lama Hotel will take you through dense forests, crossing the Langtang Khola river several times, and passing through small settlements. The trail ascends for around two hours through the forest, followed by a climb of about an hour to reach the Bamboo village (1,850m/6,068ft), where we can see well-established villages. You will then continue the trek, gently climbing up to Rimche (2,400m) located at the bank of Langtang Khola. Finally, you will ascend through the dense bamboo forest and arrive at Lama Hotel (2350m) after a moderate trek of around 6-7 hours.
Along the trail, you may have the opportunity to spot wild species such as red pandas, monkeys, and bears. You will spend the night in Lama Hotel, enjoying the warm hospitality of the locals and relishing the traditional Nepali cuisine.
Day 05: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Valley (3,500m), 5-6 hours trek
After a hearty breakfast, we set off from Lama Hotel towards Langtang Valley. The trek takes around 5-6 hours and is moderately challenging. As we climb higher, breathtaking views of the snow peaks and the verdant valley greet us. We also get a chance to witness the unique culture and lifestyle of the locals, who are heavily influenced by Tibetan traditions. The trail passes through small settlements and herds of yaks grazing in the pastures. Finally, we arrive at Langtang Valley, situated at an altitude of 3,500m.
During your stay at Langtang Valley, you can try local delicacies, including tingmo, a steamed bun usually served with a spicy vegetable or meat curry. You can also try yak milk products such as yak cheese and butter tea, which are popular among the locals. Another must-try is the sea buckthorn juice, a nutritious and refreshing drink made from the local seabuckthorn fruit. You can enjoy the hospitality of the locals and relish these delicious dishes while spending the night at Langtang Valley.
Day 06: Trek from Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa (3,900m), 3-4 hours trek
The trail to Kyanjin Gompa is short and easy, taking around 3-4 hours to complete. As you trek, you will come across prayer wheels, chortens, and mani walls adorned with Buddhist prayers. The trail also offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers, making it a photographer’s paradise. Once you reach Kyanjin Gompa, you can explore the monastery and immerse yourself in the local culture. You will spend the night at a teahouse in Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 07: Early morning hike to Tsergo Ri (5150m) and Explore around Kyanjin Gompa, a 9-10 hours trek
On Day 7, you will embark on an early morning hike to Tserko Ri, a mountain peak located at an altitude of 5150 meters. The hike takes about 6 hours to reach the top and offers panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The trail is steep, but as you ascend, the views of the Langtang Valley become more breathtaking. The top of Tserko Ri offers a mesmerizing view of the Langtang range, including Langtang Ri (7,205 m), Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), Loenpo Gang (6,907 m), Changbu (6,781 m), Gangchenpo (6,387 m), Yala peak (5,520 m), Naya Khang (5,844 m) and other peaks.
As you stand at the top of Tserko Ri, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and awe. The majestic peaks of the Himalayas are right before you, and the vastness and beauty of the natural world are palpable.
After descending from Tserko Ri, you will have the rest of the day to explore the surrounding areas of Kyanjin Gompa.
Day 08: Trek Kyanjin Gompa to Ghoda Tabela (3020m), 4-5 hours trek
After breakfast, you will begin your descent and trek towards Ghoda Tabela. Ghoda Tabela translates to “Horse Stable” in Nepali. The descent from Kyanjin Gompa to Ghoda Tabela will take around 4-5 hours and the trail will be mostly downhill. While the walk may be faster than the ascent, it can also be strenuous on the knees. So, one must be careful of their pace. The trail will take you through forests and streams, offering glimpses of the local flora and fauna. You will have plenty of opportunities to take in the stunning views of the mountains and valleys that you may have missed on the way up. As you descend, you may also notice a change in the climate and vegetation.
Day 09: Trek back from Ghoda Tabela to Syabrubesi (1420m), 6-7 hours trek
The trek will take around 6-7 hours and you will pass through small villages and cross the Langtang Khola river several times before reaching Syabrubesi. Once you reach Syabrubesi, you can relax and unwind at a local teahouse or explore the town. Overnight at Syabrubesi.
Day 10: Drive back to Kathmandu (1400m) from Syabrubesi
On this day, you will bid farewell to the Langtang region and return to Kathmandu. You will begin your journey with a scenic drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu. As you arrive in Kathmandu, you will be dropped off at your hotel where you can take some rest. In the evening, you can take a stroll around Thamel, a vibrant tourist district in the heart of the city. Here, you can shop for souvenirs, enjoy local delicacies, and immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere of the city.
Later in the evening, you will join your fellow trekkers for a farewell dinner. This is the perfect opportunity to share your feedback and experiences from the adventure, and bid goodbye to the friends you have made along the way.
Day 11: Departure day from Kathmandu (1400m)
Your Langtang Valley Trek ends on this day. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
