The trip to the Everest Base Camp Trek is indeed an adventurous Trek. Of course, it has a few challenges to accomplish during the journey, however, one can overcome the possible difficulties s/he may face during the Everest Base Camp Trek with the professional guidance of our team. Here are a few challenges that one may encounter during the Everest Base Camp Trek and ways to mitigate them:

  1. Flight Cancellation and Delayed to and from Lukla – the gateway to Mount Everest:

everest base camp trekDue to the unpredictable weather in the mountains, flights are likely to be canceled and delayed time and often. We suggest our clients have extra days in the beginning and at the end of the trip; so that it would not affect your schedule in case of flight delay and cancellation. However, if you managed to complete your trip as per the schedule, you can utilize your extra days in Kathmandu-the capital city of Nepal- by taking a city tour of the ancient city. Sometimes, you can share helicopter (with extra cost) with fellow trekkers in case of cancellation of regular flights (sometimes the weather is favorable only for the chopper but not for the airplanes). When you are there at the airport, your guide will use all the possible means to assist you and to take you to your respective destinations.

  1. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)

The high elevation is one of the difficulties of the Everest Base Camp Trek as the altitude ranges from 9383 feet (Lukla) to 18510 feet (Kalapatthar).

The crucial thing one needs to do in order to avoid altitude sickness is to have proper acclimatization before ascending to higher elevation. It is important to listen to your body to prevent altitude sickness as it reacts differently when you ascent to higher altitude. If it is your first time going to higher altitude, you need to go on a slow pace. It is also important to keep yourself adequately hydrated while ascending and avoid alcohol and cigarettes during the trek. Importantly, we suggest you to always follow the instruction of your guide.

What to do if you get the altitude sickness symptoms?

Our team will take you in a slow pace to avoid the possible altitude sickness. However, despite the precautions, your body might show symptoms of altitude sickness. In case of minor symptoms, it is important to take rest and not attempt to walk any higher. But, if your body shows severe symptoms of altitude sickness, you must descend as soon as possible with the help of your guide or friends and take rest while seeking for medical assistance.

Circumstances are different every time you ascend to higher elevation, so do not have presumption that you will have not altitude sickness if you did not have in your previous trip. Also, altitude sickness is not proportional to any factors such as age, gender, and/or physical fitness, so everybody should be careful when s/she ascends to the elevation. We suggest you to do rights things and follow your guide while ascending and take necessary precaution. You should act immediately in case your body starts showing mild symptoms so that the condition would not deteriorate.

  1. Route Challenge

The regular Everest Base Camp Trek is 14 days long which comprises uphill, downhill, and rocky paths. The trek demands a good level of physical fitness to accomplish it. We suggest the aspirant trekkers to have some outdoor activities before the trek. The other way to cope with this difficulty is to go at a slow pace because you will have ample time to reach the destination each day. You also have the option of taking a helicopter tour to the Everest Base Camp, if you completely want to avoid trekking.

Though there are challenges during the Everest Base Camp Trek, you should not worry as our experienced and professional trekking crew will be accompanying you, helping you in every step of the trek.
