Day 02 Sightseeing - Dakshinkali, Boudhanath (Talk with Monk) and Pashupatinath Temple
Nepal is not only a country of the Himalayas but a country with the heart-warming beauty of nature, diverse culture, astonishing history, and amazing myths/legends. To get in touch with the spiritual side of it you must learn about the culture and know about the religious values. Dakshinkali is only 1 and a half-hour drive from Kathmandu. Located in the middle of the forest, the temple is dedicated to the goddess Kali, the angry and bloodthirsty reincarnation of Parvati. Every day there is a sacrifice of chickens and goats taken place in the temple to satisfy the thirst of the goddess. Then we will visit Boudhanath, one of the most famous Buddhist stupas in Kathmandu which is surrounded by many other small monasteries. We will meet a monk and learn about Buddhism, learn about the philosophical guidance on how to live a meaningful life and keep your heart at peace. We will also visit the local monasteries and join the monks in the prayer. After Boudhanath, we will again visit Pashupatinath Temple, the second holiest temple of Hindus in the world. With beautiful statues, incredible temples, and artistic woodwork, Pashupatinath is not only religious but a cultural site as well. We will visit the bank of the Bagmati river which flows in the side of the temple. You will have an offbeat experience where you can see the dead bodies of Hindus cremated and remains left in the water to guide them to the afterlife. It symbolizes how Hindu people believe that life starts and ends with god and that everyone has the same faith and the same place regardless of their social status and achievements.
