The Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most fun and beautiful treks one can take in Nepal’s Khumbu region. This trek is for people wanting to experience the beauty of the Gokyo Valley and Gokyo Lakes while also conquering the Everest Base Camp. The Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek is an adventure that takes you through a different and much less crowded route. The pathway to Gokyo Valley, the valley itself, and the Gokyo Lakes are truly a hidden gem and it is one of those treks and adventures you won’t regret taking on
If you’ve decided to take on this Gokyo to Everest Base Camp trek, then you’ve made the right choice! This Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek is a trek for the lovers of nature that does not follow the classic Everest Base Camp path and that’s why it is much quieter and peaceful for the trekkers to enjoy the beauty of this trek fully and undisturbed. The trek starts with a flight from Lukla, famous for being the world’s most adventurous and popular airport. The Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek takes you through the Gokyo Valley, which is home to the beautiful Gokyo Lakes. Also, one of the many major highlights of this Gokyo to Everest Base Camp trek includes a climb to Gokyo Ri (5,360m), where trekkers can get a breathtaking and panoramic view of four of the world’s highest peaks, Mount Everest height (8,849m), Lhotse (8,414m), Makalu (8,485m) and Cho Oyu (8,188m). You can also get views of the stunning Gokyo lakes, and Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal flowing down from Mount Cho Oyu. The climb to Gokyo Ri and Everest Base Camp is one of the most adventurous parts of the Gokyo to Everest Base Camp trek.
Additionally, the Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek gives you the chance to experience the best adventures of the Everest region along with exploring the beauty of the Gokyo valley. The trek takes on a different path from Namche Bazaar (3,440m), which is famous for being a popular acclimatization stop for trekkers. This town is known as the “Gateway to Mount Everest”. From Namche, the road then follows the beautiful villages of Phortse and Machhermo. The trail then crosses the challenging and adventurous Cho La Pass (5,420m) and reconnects with the traditional Everest Base Camp route. Following this, the adventures continue leading to other major highlights of the trek, the Everest Base Camp (5,354m) and Kala Patthar (5,550m). As we walk along the Everest Base Camp route, we get to see the Khumbu Glacier, the highest glacier in the world accompanying us.
Another best part of the Gokyo to Everest Base Camp Trek is meeting the Sherpa people along the journey, and getting to experience their kind hospitality, which trekkers around the world admire. As you pass through the forests of Sagarmatha National Park, you will spot different Wildlife Sightings on the way like Musk Deer and Himalayan Tahr. If you’re lucky enough you might spot endangered animals like Red Panda and even Snow Leopard. Organised, professional and friendly Sep 2015 • Solo I joined up to the three passes trek to fulfil a personal dream of hiking in the mountains and passes near Everest. One of the greatest treks I have undertaken and would highly recommend the Everest region to anyone. The Gokyo lakes area is a must! My contact at Access was Sadhana and she was fantastic. From meeting me at the hotel in Kathmandu, to arranging my sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, to arranging the logistics of the trek, everything. I would gladly recommend Access and Sadhana to anyone planning on heading to the beautiful country of Nepal.

Gokyo to EBC trek: best adventure of my life… so far :) May 2016 • Solo I joined the Gokyo to Everest Base Camp trek and had an amazing experience. The Himalayas were everything I expected them to be and much, much more. They will literally take your breath away! This was not just a trek, but a journey that tested me both physically and mentally, and made me feel so blessed, humble, grateful and happy at the same time. The people I met were wonderful, the Nepalese are so friendly people and put all efforts in making you feel very welcomed. This was a long trek (15 days) and one of the best thing it was to make friends en route and experience the camaraderie between trekkers. My contact from the agency was Sadhana, with whom I had an excellent communication before the trip, and she even took it as a personal task to visit me at the hotel the days I spent in Kathmandu after the trek. Everything was well organized, we had very good accommodation and the food on trek exceeded expectations, both in quality and quantity. The guide Kumar and porter Bim were very kind and knowledgeable about the trek, very professional and serious about their job. I would certainly recommend Access Nepal Tour to those thinking of experiencing a Himalayan mountain trekking adventure.

Amazing company to book your trek with! Apr 2017 • Solo I just finished hiking Gokyo Lakes to Everest Base Camp loop with Access Nepal. I would highly recommend this itinerary as it takes you away from the "Everest highway" and into smaller villages and less busy trails. The Gokyo Lakes are incredible and one of the highlights of my trip along with making it to base camp. Personally I found the Gokyo Lakes to be more scenic and base camp more of a bucket list item. With this itinerary you don't have to choose! Also you get the benefit of going up one valley and down another providing new views. I found the entire trip well organized and beautiful. I am a single female traveler and was a little nervous about it. Sadhana was very quick to reply and had me join with a group of 3 women already going which was ideal for me. Being alone I had many questions before the trek that were answered usually with one day. Once you arrive to Kathmandu everything is taken care of, which is nice because Kathmandu can be somewhat overwhelming in the beginning. We had a power tour of 4 of the main religious sites in Kathmandu that was really interesting and helped provide a lot of information about Nepal and Kathmandu. As for the trek it was incredible! Our trekking guide Ganesh spoke great English and did a thorough job explaining things to the group. From what I saw of other guides he went much above the average. Every night after dinner we would get a briefing on the next day including how long each section would be and sights along the way. He arranged all the rooms in the teahouses, porters, and flights in and out of Lukla. He frequently checked on how we were feeling and would even tell us what room he was staying in if anything happened overnight. The combination of a slow ascent and a careful guide meant that nobody got serious altitude sickness in our group of four. Considering we went as high as 18,000 feet this was an accomplishment. Most groups had to have at least one person and up to half of the group flown out due to altitude sickness in comparison. Accommodations are basic but I was happy with them for every night of the 16 nights except one. Expect a room with two beds usually a toilet down the hall. This is generally what is available in all teahouses. This tour includes basically everything: pick up and drop off at the international airport, all accommodations, flights to and from Lukla, all food while on the trek, guide and porters. I rented a sleeping bag and down jacket which is also included if you want and found them both to be good quality. While trekking you get one meal item and a cup of tea included for every meal. You do have to bring enough cash for a tip and some if you want extra snacks or wifi along the way. When comparing to other trekking companies definitely check to see if food is included because many I found did not. From people I talked to we paid less for our tour and in my opinion had a better experience. I would highly recommend Access Nepal.

Gokyo to EBC Apr 2017 • Friends I recently did the Gokyo to EBC tour with Access Nepal and had the best experience ever. It was great value for money and our guide Ganesh and two porters, Yadab & Tika were just amazing!!! We had fresh fruit served every night after dinner which was a lovely and unexpected touch. Our porter Yadab even helped with our day packs while myself and one of the other girls struggled to get to the top of cho la pass. Fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend this company! Also the smaller group size (4 of us) made for the perfect trek size since it was easier to stay together. Thank to Access Nepal

Magical Exerience Apr 2017 • Friends On my recent trip to Nepal I completed the Base Camp trek with Gokyo Lakes itinerary. We were a group of 4 travellers, going up Gokyo side first and then Basecamp and down. All four of us made it up and around and no one got altitude sickness which was obviously the main goal - yay! Slow and steady wins the race is my advice!! Access Nepal Tour company were fantastic, everything was arranged and organised with excellent communication from Australia and then transfers, accommodation and tour ran smoothly, with out any glitches. Our tour guide Ganesh was experienced, helpful, spoke excellent english and provided excellent attention to detail. Our accomodation on the mountain was what you would expect, if not better (actually we even had an ensuite for 3 of the nights!). Access Nepal provide excellent value for money when compared to other trekking companies we compared with online and also when talking to other groups on the mountain (often our accom was better, always with an indoor toilet, we got fruit served with our dinner every night and a detailed briefing about our next day). All our food is included on the trek (you still order anything you like off the menu at the tea house and a cup of tea or coffee, just like other groups) and I think this is SUPER important because food on the mountain can be expensive especially as you get hire up the mountain (if meals not included, expect to pay easily a minimum on 10-15 US$ per day, if not more). Access Nepal doesn't include water, but this isn't a problem if you bring water purification tablets, you can just fill your bottle from any running water tap (even bathroom!) and off you go - we did this all the way up the mountain, with no problems... where running water isn't available, our guide Ganesh would fill them up for us from the kitchen water (free of charge) and we would purify that. All in all, it's an absolute no brainer, Access Nepal is excellent value for money and a highly regarded company on my part. I would book a trip with them again and would highly recommend!

I would not hesitate to recommend Access Nepal tours for all trekking tours in Nepal. We did the Gokyo Lakes and EBC and everything was amazing. We had a bit of trouble getting to Nepal with 2 flights canceled, but all the time Sadhana was there adjusting our plans, taking care of everything and answering all my emails super fast. Our guide was simply the best guide we could have, Subodh (or Sub) who help and looked after us all the way. Thank you to all the people at Access Nepal, you guys are amazing.

Completed Oct-Nov/2019 Trekking to Everest Base Camp via Gokyo. It was an amazing experience to be part of this adventure! Access Nepal was very competent in managing my entire trip. We even had a one-way flight cancellation to Lukla and the agency quickly managed to upgrade to fly by helicopter. The guide Jivan is very knowledgeable, knows the area in depth and was very patient with us even when I felt bad about altitude. Stayed 19 days in Nepal and highly recommend trekking and sightseeing with Access Nepal!

In Oct-Nov/2019, I completed the trek to Everest base camp via Gokyo. It was an incredible experience to participate in this adventure! The Access Nepal agency was very competent in managing my entire trip. We even had a cancellation on our outward flight to Lukla and the agency promptly got us an upgrade so we could fly by helicopter. The guide Jivan is very experienced, knows the region deeply and was patient with us, even when I felt altitude sickness. I spent 19 days in Nepal and I highly recommend doing the treks and tours with Access Nepal!

We did a 19 day trek/tour with Access Nepal in Oct/Nov of 2015. Found them on the web and was very impressed by their immediate contact with us. Keshav did a great job of organizing our demands and his team of guides and porters were spectacular. We did the Gokyo valley, Cho La pass, Everest Base camp loop which I highly recommend. It adds a few miles to the trek but has some awesome views and far less people. They also have a large list of other tours as well. I did Bardia and Chitwan National parks after the trek and once again was very pleased with Access Nepal's attention to detail.

Amazing experience from beginning to end. Access Nepal provided us all the support and care so we could focus only on doing the hard part: walking and walking during the more than 2 weeks that it took us to go from Kathmandu, explore the Gokyo Valley, cross the ChoLa Pass and reach EBC and back. All in all an unforgettable trip, made even better with the help of our guide, Subodh, and our porter, Madan. Thank you to all the people at Access Nepal, including our main contact there, Sadhana! Namaste!
