The Upper Dolpo Trek is a remote, high-altitude trek in the western part of Nepal. Dolpo is situated in the north-west side of Nepal. To be more specific, it is located just in the middle of the Tibetan Plateau and the Dhaulagiri mountain range. It is one of the challenging and exciting trekking trails, giving you the first-hand experience of the mountainous lifestyle and the overall environment.
This 24-day journey of the Upper Dolpo trek takes you to the difficult terrains, mesmerizing landscapes, and the high passes. This region was opened to tourism only in 1989. There are two different types of permits required for the Upper Dolpo trek. These are:
- Shey Phoksundo National Park Entry Permit

Since both Upper and Lower Dolpo are restricted regions, you need a national park permit too, especially the Shey Phoksundo National Park permit. It is absolutely mandatory for trekking in the Dolpo region.
The trekking route falls under the park’s territory, hence you need one. It costs USD 30 per person or NRS 3,000 for foreign nationals. You can get this permit from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or also from the national park entrance point.

Things to Do:
- Stay hydrated. Drink 4 to 5 litres of water.
- Eat healthy and nutritious meals only.
- Take your guide’s instructions seriously.
- Acclimatize properly and take sufficient rest.
- Don’t smoke and drink alcohol.
- Avoid doing things that puts load on the body.

- Don’t ascend or climb quickly.
- Don’t roam here and there without informing your guide.
- Do not skip your meals.
