The Phulchowki Hike is a spectacular one-day trek in Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley, reaching the summit of Phulchowki, the highest hill surrounding the city at about 2,762 meters above sea level. Located just 14-20 km southeast of Kathmandu (about a 45-60 minute drive to the Godawari Botanical Garden).
The Phulchowki hike near Kathmandu takes you to the lush subtropical forests and incredible mountain vistas. Its Nepali name even means “hill of flowers,” due to the rich biodiversity on its slopes.
The Phulchowki Hike trail winds upward through dense woods filled with rhododendrons (Nepal’s national flower), magnolias, and ferns, peaking in spring bloom. In the spring, especially, the hillsides turn pink and red with the blooming of rhododendrons and magnolias.
During the Phulchowki hike, you can find many endemic birds (over one-third of Nepal’s bird species) and butterflies in the subtropical forest. Along the way, you may spot many bird and butterfly species. Phulchowki hosts roughly one-third of all Nepal’s birds and over 570 flowering plants.
From the summit of the Phulchowki hike, you are rewarded with sweeping Himalayan panoramas: on a clear day, you can see major peaks from Annapurna and Manaslu in the west to Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal, and even Everest to the east. A small shrine (Phulchowki Mai Temple) and telecom towers mark the top.
The summit of Phulchowki rewards trekkers with panoramic mountain views and tranquil forest surroundings. From this viewpoint, you can gaze out over the entire Kathmandu Valley and, on a clear morning, see the snow-capped Himalayas (Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, etc.) lining the horizon.
The combination of high-altitude scenery, mid-hill temples, and flowering woodlands makes this trek an ideal escape from the city.
Access Nepal’s Phulchowki hike is designed for all types of adventurers, families, beginners, and seasoned hikers alike, since it is rated easy to moderate difficulty and can be completed by anyone in good health. This full-day Phulchowki hike itinerary is available year-round (best in spring and autumn, and generally all seasons except the heaviest monsoon rains).

Amazing holiday trekking the Manaslu circuit with Access Nepal! Amazing holiday trekking the Manaslu Circuit with Access Nepal! This was for us the second time we went trekking in Nepal with Access Nepal, and we are once again 100% satisfied with the amazing service. Sadhana is always available and incredibly kind, we had a long email exchange in order to organize the trek according to our needs. We decided to have a modified itinerary for the trek and Access Nepal has been amazing in accommodating our wishes. Moreover, our guide Giri was incredibly helpful during the trek, making sure we would always get the best rooms on the trek, the best service, and he was always very flexible regarding changing plans depending on our needs or weather forecast. The holiday was super smooth from the moment we step foot in Nepal to the moment we left. Access Nepal has 100% attention to the client needs, has an incredibly helpful and happy staff, we are so happy to be trekking with them and we will do it again. The Manaslu circuit trek is absolutely stunning, it was so much better than we expected, and we are incredibly happy to have witnessed the amazing views the trek has to offer. There`s a road in construction on the trek, and I think if you`re planning on doing this amazing trek you should do it NOW, before the road construction goes too far into the valley. The side treks to Pungyen Gompa and the Tibetan border were highlights of the holiday, if you have time please make sure to add a couple of nights in Samagaon and Samdo to take the side treks, you will love them. Access Nepal and Sadhana are super helpful in customizing your trek, you will not be disappointed. Overall, for the second time top scores to Access Nepal team, we are incredibly pleased with the service, the friendship, the professionalism and the feeling of being in good hands that come with trekking with Access Nepal. We recommend them wholeheartedly!

Amazing time doing EBC trek with Access Nepal! I went with Access Nepal for my Everest Base Camp 14 day trek, and I had an incredible experience! From my very initial inquiry, Sadhana was quick to respond and answer any questions. She made me feel very comfortable and connected throughout the entire process, and provided me with all the relevant information leading up to my arrival. When we finally met in Kathmandu to discuss the trek, she was just as friendly and kind and made me feel at ease knowing I was starting the next morning. I was met by my guide Om Prakash at the Kathmandu airport. From there he was with me the entire time as we traveled to Lukla to begin our trek and until I returned to Kathmandu. Om Prakash was an excellent and friendly guide, with so much knowledge of the area, the culture, the route, where to stay and safe places to eat and drink, and he also took the best photos! It was very helpful to have a local speaking guide to handle flight and accommodation logistics on my behalf, making sure I have somewhere to stay and eat every night. Throughout the trek, he managed my health and recommended me the best course of action when I wasn’t feeling 100%. He set the trekking pace accordingly to ensure my best success. Our porter, Bidur, was also extremely lovely during the trek. He handled my things with proper care, always made sure to have it ready on time by the evening, was extremely friendly and nice to talk to, and provided excellent service and companionship. Overall I had a 10/10 experience with Access Nepal: the trip coordinator Sadhana, my guide Om Prakash and my porter Bidur. I would recommend going with Access Nepal if you are looking to conquer the EBC trek or any similar in Nepal!
