Overview

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the less crowded trekking routes in Nepal, yet the picturesque landscapes, breathtaking mountain views, and rich diversity make it a great choice for trekkers. Situated in the western-central part of Nepal, this trail takes you around the Manaslu Conservation Area, leading to the world’s 8th highest mountain, Mt. Manaslu (8163m).

During this trek, you’ll get to see panoramic views of Mount Manaslu, Anapurna II, and other amazing Himalayan peaks. It gives you a closer look at the Manaslu conservation area and glimpses of Tibetan Buddhist villages, reflecting the local culture. The highest point of this trek is Larkya-La Pass at an altitude of 5,106 m/ 16,751 ft. From here, you can observe breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks along with diverse flora and fauna, including the red panda and snow leopard.

Despite being in the shadow of popular treks like Everest Base Camp Trek (EBC) and Annapurna Base Camp Trek (ABC), the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a hidden gem that deserves attention. Also known as an off-beaten trail, it requires a bit of preparation as it is a little bit physically demanding.

Manaslu Circuit Trek can be a great alternative to other busy trekking routes in Nepal, starting from Machhakhola to Beshi Sahar. The major attraction of the Manaslu trekking region is the tall standing Mt Manaslu itself, along with Tsum Valley and spectacular Larkya La Pass.

Our Manaslu Circuit Trek 14-days adventure begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola. From there on, we move on the trail from Jagat to Dyang, Namrung to Samagaun. In between the trails, you’ll get to see various villages, hills, and rivers.

Slowly, we move forward to Samdo, which is near the Tibet border, and onto the Larkya-La pass at 5,106 m/16,751 ft. At 5,167 meters/16,952 ft, Larkya La Pass gives us some pristine views of the surrounding hills like Mt. Manaslu, Bouddha Himal, Himalchuli, etc. This alone makes the trail worth every step.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Additional Note:

The Manaslu Circuit Trek difficulty is moderate and challenging. It is suitable for trekkers who are physically fit and prepared for long days of hiking. On average, trekkers will walk between 5 to 7 hours each day. Moreover, the high altitude adds to the challenge. Our top priority is your health and well-being. Our team leaders and guides are highly trained and experienced, and we ask that you follow their instructions throughout the trek for your safety.

You can customize the package to fit your needs, budget, and preferred departure date, with a 100% guarantee that it will run on your chosen date. When booking, you can choose from a range of additional services to enhance your experience, including group discounts, helicopter services, and emergency helicopter transport if needed.

Our Manaslu Circuit Trek Nepal package is designed to give you the best experience. Access Nepal Tour and Treks promises to achieve a successful summit by providing a reasonable Manaslu Circuit Trek cost and itinerary. If you are looking for more fun packages to explore in Nepal, you can choose Annapurna Circuit Trek and  Tsum Valley Trek with Manaslu Circuit.

What Makes the Manaslu Circuit Trek Worth It?

  1. Off-Beaten Restricted Trekking Trail: Since the Manaslu Circuit Trek is a restricted trekking trail in Nepal, it hasn’t yet been fully explored, unlike other trekking spots. The route was opened to tourists in the 1990s and is still a restricted area. Hence, the thrill and adventure it promises make it a true exploration site.
  2. Less Crowds and More Beauty to Discover: There are so many amazing trekking destinations in Nepal, like the Everest Base Camp (EBC) or the Annapurna Circuit. Thereby, it doesn’t get enough limelight. As a result of that, very few travelers go there, making it a perfect peaceful retreat for you.
  3. Mix of Nepalese & Tibetan Culture: The Manaslu region falls around the Nepal-Tibet border. That’s why you’ll experience both the Nepalese and Tibetan cultures, including prayer flags, monasteries, etc.
  4. Splendid Mountain Views: You’ll be observing scenic mountain views, most importantly Mt Manaslu itself, and other peaks like Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal, etc.
  5. Cost-efficient and Rewarding: Compared to other popular treks like Annapurna and Everest, the Manaslu Circuit Trek is quite cheap. You can be a part of a highly adventurous trek and experience rich beauty, all without spending heavy money.

Why Go For Manaslu Over Annapurna or Everest?

  • Fewer Crowds: In comparison to Everest and Annapurna, Manaslu is a bit untouched, without a huge number of tourists.
  • Rich Tibetan Culture: Villages like Samagaun and Samdo feature Tibetan prayer flags flickering from the hillside monasteries.
  • Supreme Natural Beauty: This region has jaw-dropping views from pristine mountains to glacier valleys, and there is so much to discover. Plus, you can enjoy the Manaslu Circuit trek Nepal with the traffic jams of tourists.

Guide & Porter for Manaslu Circuit Trek

Porters and trekking guides are the unsung heroes of trekking around the Himalayas of Nepal. A licensed trekking guide is mandatory for restricted areas like the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Manaslu is a restricted area because it is near the Tibetan border; hence, it poses a massive security threat. To manage tourism and protect the weak ecosystem, such an initiative has been taken. They help you to navigate trails, provide cultural insights, and maintain safety throughout the journey.

Similarly, porters are physically strong in nature and can easily walk in any higher altitudes. They can easily carry heavy weights, including your backpack and gear. This allows you to enjoy the trek more comfortably. Without hiring a porter, it becomes very tough to complete the whole journey.

Access Nepal Tour and Treks provides guide and porter services for each of our trekkers.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Guide

Once you book our Manaslu Circuit Trek package, you’ll get 1 licensed, English-language-proficient guide for a maximum of six travelers.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Porter

We offer 1 porter for a minimum of two trekkers for the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Altitude

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a fascinating journey to the less-discovered mystical Manaslu region. The trek gradually ascends from low river valleys to the remote Himalayan villages. The trek begins at Machha Khola at 869m/2851 ft, then towards Jagat (1340m/4396 ft) and Deng (1860m/6102 ft).

The trail then moves forward to the alpine villages, Namrung (2630m/8628 ft), Shyala (3500m/11482 ft), and stops at Samagaun (3520 m/11548 ft). From there on we keep going to Samdo (3,875 m/12713 ft) and Larkya La Phedi (4,460 m/14632 ft). Eventually, we’ll reach the highest point of the trek so far, the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m / 16,929 ft).

Now the route descends to Bimthang (3590 m/11778 ft) and ends at Tilije (2300 m/7545 ft). Here is a tabular representation of the key destinations and their altitudes:

Arughat – 608m or 1994ft

Samdo – 3875 m or 12713ft

Larkya La Phedi – 4460m or 14632 ft

Larkya La Pass – 5160m or 16929 ft

Manaslu Circuit Trek Difficulty

The main challenge of the Manaslu Circuit is its high altitude. The highest point of this trek is 5,106 meters at the Larkya La Pass. This means you might feel the effects of altitude sickness. Additionally, the last part of the trail to the pass is often covered in snow.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek difficulty level is moderate. It is one of the most amazing restricted trekking trails in Nepal. If you’re planning to go to the Manaslu Trekking Region, you’ve to be in good physical and mental condition.

As mentioned earlier, before heading for the trek, you can carry out physical training exercises. Alongside physical health, strong determination and willpower should also be maintained during the trek.

Even if you’re new to this trekking part, training in advance for weeks makes you ready for the challenge. Apart from that, other crucial aspects are taking enough rest days and walking at a normal pace. If you take care of these things, then you’ll be perfectly fine even if it may be your first trek.

Passport & visa requirements

All visitors to Nepal, especially for the Manaslu Circuit Trek (except Indian nationals), require an entry visa. A visa can be acquired at your local Nepalese Embassy or consulate, or on arrival in Kathmandu.

However, some Asian and African nationalities are required to obtain a visa in advance. It is better to obtain the visa prior to your arrival to avoid delays at the airport. The visa is valid for 6 months.

Multiple entry 15 Days – 30 USD

Multiple entry 30 Days – 50 USD

Multiple entry 90 Days – 125 USD

Furthermore, it is mandatory to carry your passport on the trek with you as it is required for internal flights.

Access Nepal Tour and Treks would obtain all required permits for trekking on your behalf. Also, the costs of Manaslu Circuit Trek permits are already included in your package cost. Therefore, no extra payment is required to obtain them. The following information has been compiled for your understanding.

Since the Manaslu Circuit Trek goes through conservation and restricted areas, you need a total of three permits. Let’s discuss them in detail.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Permit

Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (MRAP):

The following permit is required to enter Jagat up until Samagaun (permits are checked throughout these areas). Department of Immigration in Kathmandu issues it; you can also get this document online, or a registered trekking agency can issue it on your behalf. Please keep in mind that independent trekking is not allowed here (there should be a minimum of two trekkers).

Permit Costs (For NON-SAARC Countries):

  • During Peak Season (Sep-Nov): USD 100 per person for 7 days and an additional 15 USD from the eighth day.
  • During Off Season (Dec-Aug): USD 75 per person for 7 days and an additional 10 USD from the eighth day.

Permit Costs (For SAARC Countries):

  • During Peak Season (Sep-Nov): USD 75 per person for 7 days and an additional 10 USD from the eighth day.
  • During Off Season (Dec-Aug): USD 50 per person for 7 days and an additional 7 USD from the eighth day.

Note: No charges for Nepali citizens

Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP):

The Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP) is an important permit required for trekking within the Manaslu Conservation Area. The following permit is checked throughout the journey, starting from the Philim.

It is issued by the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Kathmandu and Pokhara, and can also be managed by a travel agency. The cost required for the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit remains the same throughout the year and does not change.

Remember that to get this permit, you have to make the payment in Nepalese rupees.

Permit Costs:

  • For individuals of Non-SAARC countries: NRS 3,000 per person per entry
  • For individuals of SAARC countries: NRS 1,000 per person per entry
  • For Nepali citizens: NRS 100 per person per entry

Besides that, the permit is provided free of cost for children under 10 years of age.

    Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP):

Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) is a specific permit required when entering the Annapurna Conservation Area. To be more specific, the key checkpoints of this permit are the areas beyond Bhimthang and Dharapani, before Besisahar

Just like the Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), the cost remains the same throughout the year.

    Permit Costs:

    • For individuals of Non-SAARC countries: NRs 3,000 per person per entry
    • For individuals of SAARC countries: NRs 1,000 per person per entry
    • For Nepali Citizens: NRS 100 per person per entry

You don’t have to be involved in the hassle of getting permits for the trek; we will make the necessary arrangements for you.

Accommodation on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Accommodation during the Manaslu Circuit trek will be mountain lodges run by local entrepreneurs. The rooms on offer generally include two single beds (sometimes 1 single and 1 double-sized bed) with a mattress, warm blanket, and pillow each, accommodating two (or three) persons. The rooms are reasonably decent and clean, given the remoteness of the trekking regions.

For your convenience, at most of the camps, especially in the lower regions of the Manaslu Circuit and Annapurna Circuit trails, an attached bath with a hot shower is offered. The rest of the camps have common bathrooms.

At higher camps, although we would do our best to provide a separate room, you might have to manage in dormitory-style rooms, in case separate rooms are not available, especially during busy seasons.

During the Manaslu Circuit Trek, you’ll mostly find teahouse accommodations that are simple yet quite relaxing. These teahouse accommodations feature rooms that are cozy, clean, and equipped with basic amenities.

During the peak seasons, you’ve to book your accommodations in advance as they can get packed. In the worst possible condition, you’ll have to share the room with other fellow trekkers.

Note: Instead of relying on blankets offered by the teahouses, the best is to carry sleeping bags, which are warmer & relaxing.

Access Nepal Tour and Treks takes care of your accommodation from start to finish of the trek as part of the package services. We provide 13 nights of accommodation in the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The hotel and teahouses will have standard accommodation on a twin-sharing basis. You’ll find attached toilets and bathrooms in available areas.

At Kathmandu, you will be staying at a 3-star Apsara Boutique Hotel for 2 Nights.

Note: “For more comfort and luxury, you can upgrade the accommodation and services with additional costs if you want to.”

Food on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The Manaslu Circuit Trek package includes one course each of breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a cup of tea/coffee. Most of the teahouses on the trail (with the exception of more remote ones) offer some variety of Nepali, Oriental, and Western cuisine. Breakfast options include cereals (oat porridge, muesli, cornflakes, roasted barley or wheat flour), bread (toast, sandwiches), pancakes, eggs, and chapatti (Indian-styled wheat bread).

As for lunch and dinner, dal-bhat (staple Nepali food comprising a set of steamed rice, vegetable curry, and lentil soup), hashbrowns, mashed potatoes, noodles, dumplings, spaghetti, soup, and pizza, among others. Breakfast and dinner would be served at the lodge/teahouse where we stay overnight. We would stop for lunch at one of the teahouses between the day’s trek. After dinner, some fruits will be provided.

Your Manaslu Circuit Trek guide can advise you on the best diet to maintain sound health and fitness levels. If you have a special dietary requirement (vegetarian, vegan, food allergies, etc.), please communicate it to your guide so that necessary arrangements can be made. Additional orders would attract extra costs payable directly to the respective lodge.

It is worth noting that most of the places on the trek are deprived of electricity, and they do not have proper refrigeration facilities. Therefore, it is recommended that you maintain a vegetarian diet during your trek as the meat available may not be fresh.

As transport of supplies to the mountain lodges and teahouses involves considerable manual labor and costs, trekkers are expected to be extra careful to keep wastage of food to a minimum.

To maintain energy levels throughout the Manaslu Circuit Trek, you must carry protein bars, chocolates, nuts, and other snacks.

    • Number of meals included per day: A total of 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)

    Extra Items:

    • Seasonal Fruits
    • 3 cups of tea/coffee daily

“You can inform the team in advance if you’ve any sort of allergies or if you’ve specific dietary preferences.”

Drinking Water on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

While on the Manaslu Circuit trek, please drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration while on a trek can lead to fatigue and other unpleasant experiences that can take the fun out of trekking. Therefore, it is advisable to drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water a day, mostly during the daytime.

Please carry a water bottle along and some water purification pills, which can be bought at the shops in Thamel.

You may refill your bottles at the lodge or at natural water sources. Please, only fill in places that your guide recommends as safe. Also, please make sure you purify it before drinking. If available, you can also buy bottled water at the lodges where you stay. Furthermore, please note that the cost of bottled water increases as you reach higher. It may cost from USD 1 to around USD 4 per 1-litre bottle.

    How often to drink water?

Drink half a liter of water as you wake up on an empty stomach. You can have another half-liter within an hour of waking up. After you start trekking, have regular sips of water in brief intervals before you experience dryness in your mouth.

Your water intake while trekking the Manaslu Circuit should be 1.5 to 2 litres. As and when you feel tired or out of breath, take a short break and hydrate. When you reach your campsite, have a liter of water in small breaks.

Nepalese Currency for Personal (extra) Expenses

It is advisable for you to carry extra cash for your personal expenses. As far as possible, please carry the cash in Nepalese rupees from Kathmandu itself, so that you get a fair exchange rate. The amount of money to carry with you depends on your personal spending habits. However, we suggest you carry cash in Nepalese rupees equivalent to USD 15 to 20 per person, per day.

Health and Safety Concerns While On The Manaslu Circuit Trek

When it comes to offering a fulfilling trek or a safe one, we tip a little in favor of safety. As you ascend higher, chances are, you may be affected by altitude sickness (also known as Acute Mountain Sickness). We strictly follow certain safety guidelines that ensure a gratifying, but more importantly, safe trek for our guests.

Although the Manaslu Circuit trek itinerary itself has been designed to allow your body 1 day of rest and acclimatization in an appropriate interval the average walking hours have been set at 5-7 hours a day (with the exception of 1 day while summiting the Larke La pass), we do take extra precautions to avert any health issues during and after the trek.

Furthermore, our experienced trekking guides are also trained in ‘Mountain sickness and first aid’ and know how to prevent mountain sickness and also act in case of emergencies.

    Pre-Trek Check-up

We urge you to get yourself medically examined before taking on the trekking challenge. Please make sure you are cleared by your doctor to make the Manaslu Circuit trip, which involves flying, hiking, and trekking.

Importantly, if you are given a conditional clearance or have a special medical condition (asthma and others) or allergy that may be induced in specific conditions, be sure to let us know in full detail so that we can plan accordingly.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Preparation and Training

    Cardiovascular Exercises

Cardiovascular exercises help to improve the overall fitness and health of a person, from increasing endurance levels to better immunity. This set of exercises contains activities like running, jogging, cycling, swimming, rowing, walking, and many more.

Investing in fitness exercise also helps to boost your strength and stamina, and, most importantly, builds stability. Similarly, fitness workout activities include weight lifting, push-ups, pull-ups, squats, plunges, planks, yoga, etc.

Besides all of these, doing strength training exercises for a couple of months can be handy. It reduces the chances of injuries during the trek. It helps to improve overall physical performance, reducing fatigue and enhancing stamina.

    Physical Training

In order to be efficient and effective in trekking, you must possess good physical stamina and endurance. Only then, you be able to walk for long hours and not face any kind of difficulty throughout the trekking period. A good level of physical fitness is required to surpass the high altitude points and tough mountainous terrains.

The best is to get involved in physical workout sessions a week or two before heading on the trip. Remember that a fit body and sound health conditions are key to making this trekking journey an ultimate success.

    Mental Preparation

Putting all the attention on good physical condition alone is not a good strategy if you’re going on these high-altitude trails. There are several factors that might cause mental fatigue, such as unexpected weather conditions, high-altitude terrain, etc.

An off-the-beaten-path journey can be unpredictable at times; uncertainties or emergencies can arrive at any moment. Thus, mental calmness and composure are needed during these hours to move forward on the trekking journey.

Good mental preparation before the start of the journey gives you an extra edge, helping you to overcome obstacles with ease. Invest in deep breathing meditation sessions, practice yoga, and exercises to build mental resilience.

Altitude Sickness on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

The highest that we climb in the Manaslu Circuit trek is 5,106m (16,752ft) at Larke La pass. Altitude sickness or Acute Mountain Sickness can be triggered in high altitudes (generally higher than 2400m/7874ft) where there is less oxygen than in lower altitudes. It happens when you ascend to a great height in a short time before your body can adjust to the change.

Likewise, a lack of oxygen can lead to a condition called acute mountain sickness (AMS). Trekking at high altitudes, especially at points like Larkya La Pass (5,106 meters), increases the risk of altitude sickness.

Common symptoms of altitude sickness are headaches, dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Some people may also have trouble sleeping. These symptoms can start slowly and worsen if you continue to climb without giving your body time to adjust.

Furthermore, in more severe cases, it can lead to serious health issues like HAPE (high-altitude pulmonary edema) or HACE (high-altitude cerebral edema). You should be highly careful because both of these are life-threatening if not treated quickly.

To prevent altitude sickness, it’s important to climb slowly. So, always take your time and allow your body to get used to the higher altitude. Adding rest days to your trek for acclimatization is very important and helps your body adjust better.

If you start to feel unwell, the best thing to do is descend to a lower altitude. Resting at a lower point can help relieve the symptoms, and it’s always important to listen to your body. If symptoms get worse, seek medical help immediately. With proper care, planning, and awareness, altitude sickness can be managed.

    AMS DO’s

    • Stay hydrated. Drink frequently in small quantities before the onset of common symptoms of dehydration, which include thirst, dry lips, nose, or mouth, headache, and fatigue.
    • Make sure you eat well, ensuring at least a light meal (soup or others) when you lose your appetite, which is a common occurrence in high-altitude regions.
    • Follow your guide’s instructions and monitor your body’s responses to the cold and altitude.
    • Acclimatize properly and take rest days when necessary.
    • Stay clear of smoking and alcohol consumption at all costs.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise.
    • Take a first aid kit containing medication for altitude sickness and other common illnesses.

    AMS DON’Ts

    • Climbing up too high, too quickly, can be risky. Avoid walking at a hurried pace, and do not ignore your rhythm of breathing. Slow and steady with calm breathing is the way to go.
    • Avoid overcommitting yourself, which might risk altitude sickness or injury.
    • You may be tempted to wander away, especially without your guide knowing. Please avoid this.
    • Do not skip your meals.

Electricity and Charging of Your Devices on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Electricity is available in most of the villages along the trek, especially in lower altitude areas like Deng, Soti Khola, and Jagat. You’ll find electric plugs in accommodations in areas like Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Samdo, and Samagaun.

In higher altitudes, you’ve to use power sockets to charge your electronic devices. However, it might cost you a little. This is why it is best to carry a power bank or a solar charger as backup, especially in higher-altitude areas.

Some of the lodges (in more remote areas) are powered by solar panels, and the energy supply is limited. You may be required to pay a minimum price (USD 1 to 3 per full charge) for charging your cell phones and other electronic devices, which will be directly collected by the lodge owner.

Internet and mobile network connectivity on the Manaslu Circuit Trek
Local mobile network operators like Ncell and NTC offer limited coverage along the Manaslu Circuit trek. There have been significant 3G and 4G mobile network extensions in the rural areas of Nepal. Thus, you can expect to find fair network coverage in/near settlements. Generally, villages and towns in lower altitudes offer workable internet and connection services.

Some of the teahouses of villages like Namrung and Samagaun have access to Wi-Fi; however, the connection may be slow. They might charge you a bit between USD 2 to USD 3. Talking of the mobile network. NTC (Nepal Telecom) has better coverage here than Ncell.

You can buy an NTC SIM card in Kathmandu along with mobile data for a basic level of connectivity. Mobile data works better in a few lower-altitude villages.

You can avail of a local SIM for as low as NRs. 100 (less than 1 USD) with limited validity and internet data volume. On average, NRs. 100 to 500 would take care of your internet usage for the duration of the trip.

Additional/Special Gear for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

A good quality sleeping bag and down jacket would be required to withstand the drop in temperature at high altitude on the Manaslu Circuit trek in Nepal. A minimum rating of -15 °C (5°F) would be advisable for the gears. Access Nepal Tour and Treks offers the option of free borrowing of a decent-quality sleeping bag and down jacket. These are rated up to -20 C (68 F). The gears are checked thoroughly for quality and cleaned after each usage.

Please let us know in advance once you have booked your trip with us to enable us to arrange one for you. Also, please remember to return them once you are back from your trek.

A pair of crampons may be necessary while on the Manaslu Circuit trek, especially while summiting the Larke La Pass. It is advisable to carry them since mountain weather can change abruptly, and fresh snow can make walking difficult in the high terrain.

Insurance for Manaslu Circuit Trek Nepal

Travel insurance should be covered if you’re looking to trek the Manaslu Circuit. There are several reasons behind it:

    • High altitude
    • Remote terrain
    • Limited access to emergency services

To ensure a safe and secure trekking experience in the Himalayas, it is highly recommended to obtain travel insurance. As you embark on your journey, you may face various challenges like altitude sickness, harsh weather, accidents, and flight cancellations. By purchasing travel insurance, you will have coverage in case of any unforeseen events and enjoy a worry-free trekking adventure.

Specialist travel insurance would be required to guarantee you are adequately insured. In addition to covering medical expenses and trip cancellation, please ensure that all activities and destinations in the itinerary are included in your policy, specifically mountaineering or alpinism.

Coverage in the event of emergency helicopter evacuation (helicopter tours), medical treatment, and hospitalization in case of injury or death is mandatory.

At Access Nepal Tour and Treks, we recommend that you do your own research to select the insurance company. A valid proof of your insurance certificate should be brought along during the trek. While we don’t have any affiliations with insurance providers, we’re happy to offer advice and assistance if you need help understanding your insurance policies or selecting an insurer.

Please note that the insurance policy is a contract between you and the insurance company, and we cannot be held responsible for any dispute between you and your insurance company. Failure to provide proof of insurance may prevent you from joining your program, and you wouldn’t be eligible for a refund.

Here is some brief information about choosing the right and trustworthy insurance company.

Rescue/Evacuation Situation During Manaslu Circuit Trek

In the event of a rescue/evacuation situation, your guide will handle the rescue situation in coordination with the base office. During an evacuation situation, the helicopter companies are contacted immediately.

However, due to recent changes in regulations, rescue helicopters can only respond to a rescue call once the Guarantee of Payment (GOP) is received from the client’s insurance company.

It is therefore mandatory to carry with you a summary of your insurance policy containing the policy number and details, along with the Specialty Assistance (24/7) helpline number. Please, make sure you share the insurance policy information with us before you depart for the trek.

Disclaimer (Disruption due to Weather or other unforeseen conditions, Possible change in the itinerary)

The conditions in the remote Himalayan regions can be volatile and susceptible to unforeseen weather changes and natural disasters, rendering the existing trails unsafe and may also affect the health of the trekkers.

In case of any emergencies due to the aforementioned reasons or any other, you are requested to respect any decision that your team leader (guide) makes, which is in the best interest of your safety. We humbly request your full co-operation should such a situation arise.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Best Season and Climate

While it is feasible to do the Manaslu Circuit Trek at any time, the most favourable times to take part in the journey are from March to May and September-end to November, when the weather is expected to be at its best. The weather during these months is generally clear with bright sunny days, making for an ideal trekking condition.

The temperatures during the day range from 15°C to 20°C, while at night, they can drop to as low as -15°C. However, the climate at higher elevations is highly unpredictable, and it can get quite cold and windy. It is best to avoid the monsoon season from June to August, as the trails can be slippery and hazardous, and the views are often obscured by clouds and mist.

From September to December, the weather remains perfect for trekking purposes, with clear skies and sunny days. Normally, the weather remains warmer till early December.

Cultural Experience & Local Life in the Manaslu Circuit

    Ancient Villages

Villages like Samagaon, Lho, and Samdo showcase a simple life, traditional living, and are deeply in touch with the environment. Residents of these areas put full attention on raising yaks and spinning prayer wheels. Especially the kids of these areas show pure harmony and warm hospitality.

    Immense Faith in Buddhism

Manaslu region falls near the Tibetan border, which is why it’s obvious to see such a great Tibetan influence. You’ll see monasteries covered with multi-colored prayer flags. Not only that, the mani walls are carved with holy mantras. During the trail, you’ll also observe prayer wheels spinning in almost all of the villages.

    Meals and Hospitality

During this trail, you’ll get to know more about the Himalayan lifestyle, the way they connect with people, and their stories. Teahouse meals are often simple, yet healthy and nutritious. In villages of higher altitudes, you’ll gather around the kitchen fire to talk, build a deeper connection, and have fun programs.

    Popular Festivals

Lhosar or also known as Tibetan New Year, is massively celebrated here. Coincidentally, if you arrive in that period, then you’ll get to see energetic dances, masked rituals, and happier celebrations that will add more joy and fun.

Annapurna and Manaslu trek May 2016 • Family My father and I recently completed the Annapurna and Manaslu combined circuit with Access Nepal. It was a great experience and everything went smoothly. Our guide (and porter) where great, very friendly and always helpful. All this and the were quick to come up with a very reasonable quote for this custom trek. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful experience Apr 2016 • Couples This is a delayed review as we went to Nepal in April/May. My husband and I did the Manaslu Circuit Trek as we wanted something a little more off the beaten path than Annapurna or Everest Base Camp. We were very happy with this decision...we seldom saw other trekkers and most nights there were maybe a dozen or less others at our hotels (it got busier as we climbed as there are less villages and hotel options). We also added on a trip to Chitwan after our trek (which was very enjoyable...but very hot and humid that time of year). The company was great. We were a bit nervous to book with a company out of Nepal only because we have control issues and it felt a little scary to give all this money to a company halfway around the world and not really know what we were getting into. However, we were well taken care of by Sadhana, the owner who manages the booking and all the details, as well as our guide, Hom, and porter, Giri (who was training to guide that trek). Hom and Giri made the trek extra special and they were enjoyable to be around. Overall, we felt confident with their knowledge and experience. No matter what company you go with, it is important to remember that Nepal is a third world country and they are in the midst of and recovering from a number of issues. Things are not always going to go as planned. That being said, it was a very wonderful experience, the people are very friendly, especially on the trek, and the scenery is beautiful.

Manaslu Circuit Oct 2016 • Solo I undertook the Manaslu Circuit trek with Access Nepal and it was fantastic. The scenery was breathtaking and I was very fortunate to have excellent weather and trekking conditions. Our guide Chabi and porter Hari - were both fantastic and I cannot recommend both of them highly enough. They were excellent. Access provided good service and communication in the lead up to the trek and while in Kathmandu.

Manaslu Circuit with Trevor, Beth and Gianna Mar 2018 • Friends We have just had a wonderful thirteen day trek around the Manaslu Circuit. And we felt really privileged to be trekking with Access Nepal. we were the trekkers to get the tea and bickies on arrival at our hotel each night, the only ones to have the apple and pomegranate dessert, and the only ones to get our blood oxygen levels checked each night over 3000 m for altitude sickness. Little Things Matter!! Some of the others we walked with who I knew had paid more didn't have such little luxuries. We were also extremely fortunate to be allocated our guide Jivan. Sadhana at Access Nepal promised me she would give us their best guide and I'd thought that maybe she says that to all the guys but I'm pretty sure now it was true. Without his prodding and coaxing, his little stash of pills, his humour at the end of a long day, his advice on what eat or drink or to leave alone - we may not have made it without him. And particularly when it came to the night before we went over the Larkya La and we had 20 cm of snow overnight and there was a pretty strong feeling that we were screwed and we'd have to walk all the way back the way we'd come, it was Jivan who convinced the other guides that it was doable. The 50 odd trekkers and staff who were there worked together to get over the pass safely - an unforgettable experience with people we'd come to know and enjoy the company of over the preceding days. It was a great trek to do. At the conclusion we drove down part of the Annapurna Circuit and there were at least ten times more trekkers on that route than we'd met on the Manaslu one. The scenery was fantastic, village life interesting, hotels and food were all we needed. OK the toilets at Daramasala were iced up and overflowing but do you expect at a shack like that at 4400?

Fantastic company that will give you the experience of a lifetime! This is our second time going with Access Nepal, this time for our honeymoon, and it was just as fantastic the second time around. It's an absolutely lovely company that will handle your trip as professionally as possible, from arriving at the airport to leaving again. They listen to your needs and wishes, and customize the trip accordingly. We are always incredibly well taken care of by one of the managers, Sadhana, who is a dear friend by now, who always does anything she can to make the trip the absolute best it can be. And we couldn't have asked for better company or a more trustworthy guide than our guide Giri. The company has very high standards as to how they treat and compensate their staff, and its really visible in the content and pride shown by all of their staff members. As for the treks they offer, we've done both the Everest three high passes and the Manaslu circuit now, and both have been absolutely mind-blowing. There really is no other place in the world like the Himalayas. Every single part; the Jeep ride into the areas, the high roads, the mountain sides, the mountains following your every step; everything is just absolutely amazing. It's too amazing to describe in words or pictures. I can't tell you anything but to GO!!! It's well, well, well worth the time and cost!!
