Everest Base Camp Temperature

1. Spring (March to May)

If you are a summer lover then the Spring season is one of the best times to visit the Everest region. For trekkers and climbers also, doing it in the Spring is ideal. Spring in Nepal starts in March and ends in May. The weather during springtime gets mild and pleasant. The temperatures will become stable though it will be a little chilly at night.

During day time, the temperature ranges from 12°C to 20°C (53°F to 68°F). This is the temperature of the lower places of regions like Lukla and Namche Bazaar. Similarly, at nighttime temperatures in higher altitudes like in Dingboche and Lobuche, it will drop to around -5°C to -10°C (23°F to 14°F).

Since the temperature will become pleasant in this season, it is the ideal time for traveling or trekking in the Everest region. Moreover, the clear skies, beautiful snow-capped mountains, and trails filled with gorgeous rhododendron and wildflowers, make it worth your time and money.

Summer/Monsoon (June to August)

Summer and Monsoon seasons in Nepal happen simultaneously. The summer and monsoon starts from June and ends in August. The daytime of temperatures ranges from 15°C to 25°C (59°C to 77°F) and drop to around 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F).

During summer, the temperature in the Everest region gets a little bit warmer. In other parts of Nepal mostly in the Terai region, it gets extremely hot in summer. However, as the summer is a great time for trekking in the Everest region, due to the summer and monsoon coinciding together, trekking at this time is quite risky.

Especially in the Monsoon season, Nepal is prone to heavy rainfall, floods, and landslides making trekking risky and difficult. The surrounding view will also get foggy and unvisible. Due to the heavy rainfall, there will be a high chance of blocked routes due to the landslides. The route will also get muddy and slippery which makes it dangerous to trek.

However, it’s not like completely impossible to trek during summer and monsoon season in Nepal and it is less recommended. Only a few seasoned trekkers and climbers visit during this time of year. However, the good part is, the route will be quite and peaceful.

Autumn (September to November)

The peak and best season for trekking in the Everest region is in Autumn. It lasts from September to November. Trekking and visiting the Everest region in September and November is perfect. During Autumn, the temperature get more stable and comfortable.

The temperature of Everest region in day time will range from 12°C to 20°C (53°F to 68°F). Likeiwse, at night it will drop to -5°C to -10°C (23°F to 14°F). It will not be too cold or too warm. This time makes the ideal for trekking in the Everest region, especially if you are travelling in high-altitude areas. Since its a peak season, the trails will be quite crowded.

In winter, the temperatures range from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F) and it drops to -15°C to 20°C (5°F to -4°F).

The winter season in Nepal starts in December and ends in February. In the Everest region, during winter time, there will be heavy snowfall and the weather are also unstable. Due to heavy snowfall, trails will get blocked. Similarly, unpredectable weather makes the high chances of cancellation of flight to Lukla or the airport might get close.

However, the skies will be clear during the day time and trails will quiet and peaceful. Because of high risks of danger during winter season, few trekkers visit at this time.
