Yes, you can have a private room during the trek or in Kathmandu. In Kathmandu, you can easily get a variety of accommodation options which has attached bathrooms, hot showers, and other services. From budget-friendly to luxury accommodation, all types of private rooms are available depending on your budget. During the trek, like in some of these popular regions, such as Everest and Annapurna, private rooms can be arranged in teahouses at additional costs. However, private rooms can be limited at higher altitudes and in remote areas. Therefore, if you want to trek in luxury, we suggest you book in advance for better arrangements, especially during the peak season, because rooms can be limited due to high demand.

No, the rooms in the teahouses do not have private attached toilets. The teahouses along the routes mostly provide shared common toilets. There are chances of getting private attached toilets at lower elevations, or better equipped toilets may have private toilets. The higher you trek, there is rarer the chance of getting private bathrooms, and you have to use the shared one, which comes in a squat style. However, if you want private bathrooms throughout the trek, they can be arranged with an additional cost. Yes, it is recommended to bring your own toilet paper for the trek. Mostly at higher altitudes, teahouses won’t provide toilet paper. Even if they are available, you have to pay, which could be quite expensive and limited in quality. Therefore, we suggest you carry a few rolls or pack travel-sized tissue packs. And do not forget to carry a hand sanitizer and wet wipes.

Yes, restrooms are available along the trail of Gokyo Lake trek and others too. The toilets available at teahouses and along the trail a mostly basic. Similarly, in high elevation places, you will find the toilets in a squat style. If you are trekking in a remote section or between villages, at that time you won’t find the toilets at that time. Therefore, we suggest you carry a small trash bag, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. Do not forget to plan a restroom break at the teahouses.

Luxury accomodation is available throughout the Gokyo Lake Trek, but it comes with an additional cost. At lower altitude places like Lukla, Namche Bazaar, Phakding, and Dole, luxury accommodation comes with private rooms with attached bathrooms, hot showers, comfortable beds, Wi-Fi, charging devices, electric blankets, and a room heater. However, at high elevation, the luxury accommodation services might be limited. Most of the teahouses at Gokyo Valley provide basic accommodation. If you have chosen the luxury accommodation at Gokyo village, some premium teahouses provide private rooms, cleaner rooms, electric blankets, hot showers, and a heater. To enjoy the full luxury at high elevation, going with a travel agency is highly suggested.

During the Gokyo Lake Trek, you can expect traditional Nepali food, Dal Bhaat Tarkari (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and sometimes meat), Sherpa dishes, and varieties of dishes. To give you the energy to trek for long hours, Access Nepal Tours and Trekking provides nutritious and organic locally sourced food throughout the trek. We will provide 13 breakfasts, 10 lunches, and 13 dinners, including a welcome and farewell dinner in Kathmandu. You will also be served with 3 cups of coffee/tea and seasonal fruits after dinner. No. It’s not okay to drink water without purification tablets. We suggest that you drink water that is purified throughout the trek. Access Nepal Tours and Trekking provides free water purification tablets to ensure your safety. We recommend that you not drink Tap water, stream water, or water from local sources because they might be contaminated with bacteria and parasites, which can make you sick. Use a UV purifier, a filtration bottle, or purification tablets to stay safe and healthy. Another alternative to do if you don’t have purified water is to drink boiled water. It won’t cost you that much, teahouses will charge a small fee. We suggest you carry a refillable bottle with purification tablets because at high elevation, water may cost you quite a bit, and it will also contribute to plastic waste.

Water purification tablets, a water filter, a purifier bottle, and boiled water are the tips for water purification during the Gokyo Lake Trek. For the water purification tablets, you can buy them at a pharmacy otherwise, a travel agency usually provides them free of cost. You can put the tablet in the water 30 to 60 minutes before drinking it. For the boiled water, you can ask them at the teahouses, though it will cost you a small amount of money. Throughout the trek, totally avoid drinking water directly from streams, rivers, or taps. Though it may look fresh and clean, it still consists of some bacteria and parasites.

If you are at a high altitude, they might be a little more expensive because of the logistical challenges of heating water. The price of hot water may range from 100 NPR to 200 NPR. Yes, there are laundry services available during the Gokyo Lake Trek. However, these types of services are only available at towns like Lukla and Namche Bazaar. Even if the service is available at some of the teahouses and lodges, you have to pay extra cash as a laundry fee. But once you trek or reach higher, laundry services are not available. Therefore, it is suggested to carry a clothes smartly because clothes dry slowly in the cold and dim sunlight. Though you can do handwashing on small clothes like socks and underwear during your acclimatization or rest days. To handwash, you can bring a travel pack of biodegradable detergent. But keep in mind that water at higher elevations is freezing cold, and it will also take some time to dry. We suggest that you prepare beforehand and do not depend on the laundry services.

You can easily charge your mobile phones, electric devices, or power banks along the trails. However, to charge the devices, teahouses will charge you extra. It won’t be expensive and costs you around  $1 to $5 per hour or per device. You can expect the fee might go higher the higher you reach. It is because, at places like this, electricity mostly comes from solar power, which is limited. Therefore, to save money, you can bring extra power banks or a solar charger. It will be more convenient, and you won’t have to spend money on these kinds of things. Most of all, it will be more convenient and smooth.

Trekking in Nepal as a vegetarian is actually quite easy. Nepali food has many vegetarian options, and most teahouses along popular trekking routes like the Gokyo Lake Trek serve vegetarian meals. The most common dish is Dal Bhat, which includes rice, lentil soup, and vegetables, all vegetarian and very filling. You can also find other foods like noodle soup (Thukpa), vegetable fried rice, pasta, momos (dumplings) with vegetable stuffing, porridge, and bread. Just let the teahouse staff know that you’re vegetarian, and they will prepare food accordingly. All the food available at houses is fresh, organic, and locally sourced. During your visit, you can simply talk or write about your food allergies to kitchen staff, so that they can prepare food accordingly. In case the safe food is not available during the trek, we suggest you carry your own allergy-safe snacks like energy bars, nuts (if you’re not allergic), or dried fruits. Furthermore, if you have any serious type of allergies, you should carry antihistamines and an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) if needed.
